I don't suspect any of you guys know which neighborhood has the higher property tax?

I.e., for someone to open a coffee shop?

Gold Coast and River North are so close to one another, so no, you're not missing out on anything living in the Gold Coast. I agree with everyone else that the price points are pretty similar, so go wherever you can get the best deal. The buildings in River North tend to be more modern than those in the Gold Coast. I personally like Gold Coast better because it feels more "neighborhoody" and less touristy than River North, but the are right next to one another, so your social/professional life shouldn't differ no matter which neighborhood you choose to live in.
