Gino's, Uno, and Lou Malnatti's are the three big local chains doing Chicago-style deep-dish pizza IMO Lou's does it best of the three. Avoid any Uno location other than the Uno and Due half a block apart on Wabash on River North. Pequod's in Lincoln Park is a local favorite but they are a bit of a departure from the traditional local style.

Then there's stuffed, which is similar to Chicago deep-dish, the difference being that stuffed has a very thin layer of dough on top of the ingredients before the sauce then goes on top of the top layer of dough. The two big regional purveyors are Giordano's and Nancy's. Giordano's is the more popular one and is almost as overrated as Nancy's is underrated. A smaller local stuffed chain is Chicago's Pizza. IMO they fall somewhere between Nancy's and Giordano's, and in my experience have been a little inconsistent. Edwardo's used to be a big local/regional purveyor of stuffed but they've contracted down to two or three locations. Too bad, they were way better than Giordano's in my opinion and right.

A favorite "mom-and-pop" stuffed pizza purveyor is Art of Pizza. They are a good option because they sell stuffed by the slice so you don't have to spring for a whole pie that even two people could never finish in one sitting (first-timers to Chicago style deep dish or stuffed almost always overestimate greatly how much it will take to fill them up), and they move enough of it especially at lunch and dinner time that it's still good and fresh.

Deep dish was (more or less) invented here, and no other city has really embraced it so, no, no other city does deep dish better than Chicago.

Since others have mentioned it before, favorably, I'll add Burt's Pizza to the list, although apparently eating there is more of a "reservation"-type process, and not really conducive to just dropping in..

Giordano's has to be the heaviest pizza known to man. Best to order slices, if possible, and gauge how full your stomach is..

Ah jeez, he said THAN Chicago, not IN Chicago? I read it like he was looking for other recommendations in addition to Gino's.

In light of this clarification, I revise my treatise above to simply "no."

No. I know of one good example in NYC (started by a Chicagoan) but it's not any better than any of the best stuff in Chicago.

I had heard recently that Burt's was closed temporarily due to health issues in the family. Hopefully it's not permanent, I still haven't made the trek out to try them!

The first time I went to Chicago I ate at a Gino's East location and the food tasted kind of stale. I would try Lou's, because everyone seems to think they are the best for deep-dish.

Damn near every city in the US has at least one restaurant selling Chicago style deep dish. It's not always as good, but it's close because pizza is easy. You can't get good Mexican food outside of California either.
