It's starting to look like Illinois is doomed. The democrats control the house and there isn't much Rauner can do. The Republicans are not going to be able to gain enough seats in the November elections.

Any one see how Rauner can be successful in his turn around agenda?

This should be good.

Not sure how he can do anything in the current environment. His hands are tied.

Honestly he is giving it 100%, he really is trying to do what's best for Illinois.

I know, but it's like trying to fight Mike Tyson with you hands tied behind your back.

No, nothing will change with Madigan still in power.

It's pretty sad that they have Rauner by the balls, Illinois citizens don't realize just how bad of a shape this states in.

Poor guy, I'm sure he's enjoying the 750k tax break he gave himself. Sam Zell can wipe his tears away.

This. I'd feel worse for the guy if he weren't your typical politician at heart. I agree we need serious reform, but anyone who gives themselves a 750k a year tax break knowing the financial constraints the state is facing is not interested in the good of the people but in the good of themselves.

I'd definitely love to see Madigan go before Rauner, but never seeing either of them associated with Illinois politics ever again is the dream scenario. I don't think Illinois is f*****. We're too big to fail. With that said, I hope the Federal Government steps in sooner rather than later to un-knot this clusterf***.

The are some suburban state house and senate districts that could flip. I haven't seen any news analysis of the prospects for a change of control this year. I am sure both Rauner and Madigan have their own quite detailed analysis of the chances. I've spent a little time looking at the districts and in my own amateur opinion I think it would be difficult to do, but maybe not impossible. There are more Democratic seats in the suburbs than I thought.

God forbid Rauner should try to BALANCE the budget instead of just raising taxes to make up for overspending...

It's your logic that got us into the situation that requires us to implement a TEMPORARY tax hike...

As others said, Rauner has no power to make great change. He is being blamed for all of the cuts he has to make, while facing opposition from his own house on how to spend anything he has available. It's the Illinois of old that got us into this mess and everyone wants to blame Rauner for anything being cut.
