Chicago - Gold Coast, Old Town, Bucktown, Wicker Park, Lincoln Park and the Loop. Literally any other neighborhood.

250K is ridiculously cheap for a good area...even for a studio/1 bed. 500K area for that in my hood.

That apartment sucks. Walls that don’t go to the ceiling = no bedrooms. Also, $350 maintenance.

Here are a handful of modern, renovated units around the city, with maintenance under $300:

I agree that the apartment sucks, but not because of the 3/4 high walls - it is a loft after all and the OP is looking for a loft type apartment. Also $350 maintenance fee for a 2 bedroom of this size in an elevator building is not bad. Based on the radiator in the pic on the lower level, it looks like heat is provided by the building (at least on the lower level) which would be included in the maintenance fee.

The issue I have with this unit is the poor layout and one bathroom. To make matters worse, the bathroom is only accessible via the master bedroom, there is no second entry to access it from the hallway. So that would mean the person sleeping downstairs would need to walk upstairs and through the master to use the toilet. Then there is the weird wall in front of the windows in the lower bedroom, which I presume is to cover up some sort of duct or pipes for the central boiler.
