Gone to Uptown a number of times as a Lakeview resident, either to Michael's Pizza or the U-Haul facility near it. The area near where Holiday Club and where Nick's Uptown used to be is pretty safe, or just north of Irving on Southport.

There's an outdoor track at Clark and Leland. It's kind of at the border of Uptown and Ravenswood, but I've always felt safe running there, even at night.

I have been to Target several times, drove there a few times at night and rode my bike there a few times during the day.

Overall, I felt safe enough most times there, but I've generally avoided the more notorious area of Broadway between Wilson and Lawrence on purpose.

Sorry, my post was not intended as a commentary on your street smarts or lack thereof. I was discussing different people entirely. Just saying I've known a lot of people who have done just fine there. I'm sorry you didn't.

I lived there for years and loved it, great transit and lakefront access, diverse, you've got a lot of food options with some great ethnic options. Sandwiched between Lakeview with Wrigleyville and Boystown and then Andersonville and Edgewater. Looks like a huge amount of new development taking off, most centered right around Broadway/Sheridan and the Wilson corridor. Something like 3-6 larger new nice apartment buildings.

Current Uptown resident here, I live near Lawrence and Malden, just 3 blocks west of Broadway. I heard about the shooting, and actually there has been maybe 2 or 3 homicides within a 3 minute walk from my apartment, and I've been here since May. With that being said, I've actually felt very safe in this neighborhood. I do not go east of Sheridan, as it can get sketchy over there. Things have changed extremely fast since I moved here, I've seen the re-opening of the shiny new Wilson station, which has sparked redevelopment and forced out a lot of the scummier aspects of Uptown. A lot of mental health and addiction centers have closed up shop. Which means much less of the homeless/crazy people who used to embody Uptown. I haven't had a single moment where I felt I was in danger, and I am a night owl. I am walking around the neighborhood at all hours of the day, usually alone.

The age range is diverse. I would say in my immediate area it is mostly people a little older than I. I am in my early 20s. Most people are in their mid to late 20s or in their 30s. With that being said other parts of Uptown have older folks and families as well. Around Argyle there are more Vietnamese families, but the age varies a lot as it is mostly Vietnamese of all ages. Other parts have more elderly people. I believe there is a retirement/assisted living complex on Lawrence, east of Sheridan.

Moving on to amenities, the area has great food, a variety of cuisines from all over the world. There's Argyle, which has a bevy of Vietnamese options, and there is a variety of Mexican restaurants as well as your traditional American, and fast food fare. Demera is on Broadway and Lawrence, and it is some A-grade Ethiopian cuisine. As mentioned earlier, your grocery and everyday items can be fulfilled by the Aldi/Target on Broadway and Sunnyside. There is a Jewel on Montrose and Broadway and a Marianos on Lawrence and Ravenswood as well, which are on the edge of the neighborhood. In addition to these larger stores, there is a shop and save on Wilson and Sheridan(although like I said, I don't go east of Sheridan very often, but I am across from this place sometimes because of McDonalds and Sonic, and again, no issues) and a few Vietnamese grocery stores around the Argyle corridor.

I do my banking with PNC and Wintrust, there is a PNC on Montrose and a Wintrust a short bus or car ride down Lawrence. My roommate banks with Chase, there is a Chase bank across the street from the Aragon Ballroom. There is also a Bank of America near the theatre as well.

There are a few dive bars/neighborhood joints, and there is a small nightlife strip surrounding the Green Mill which is modestly vibrant, but nothing close to Lakeview or Logan Square.

Also, transit is amazing, it's hard to beat the concentration of buses and trains unless you are living near downtown or in Lakeview/Lincoln Park.

Lastly, if you choose to live west of Broadway, it is very clean and quiet, if you live east of Broadway, not so much on the clean aspect.

It is a hell of a lot better than when I lived there in the early 90s but I still would not live there again

Track is at Chase park. It's super safe! It's on Ashland Ave. Clark and Leland. It's 0.2 miles around.

You could look into Buena Park. It's a small neighborhood just south of Uptown right on the lakefront. Gorgeous housing, too.
