Hey, sorry to dog Chicago and I'd love to believe that the CPD and the IL government work hard, but my interactions with both have been....bizarre.

I'll try to make this brief. I live in Vegas, moved here about a year ago. Before that, lived in KC and had a 24 yo "trans" family member move in because no one else would take her. That said, I eventually had to kick her out because of emotional issues, theft and violence. She ended up going to Chicago and working as an escort/prostitute in the River North area.

Over the last year, I have tried to get this kid some social services help, have reached out to the CPD and have pretty much done everything I could to get this kid some help. However, everyone in a position of empowerment is either lazy or doesn't give a rats behind.

By the way, this young adult with bad credit and zero cred lives in a high end apt, which boggles my mind.

Vegas has tons of resources and the LVPD, while assertive, get things done here.

A friend of mine who is a CPA suggested that, since she has never paid taxes ever, to reach out to IL Revenue. I have no idea how that ends up, but it sounds like it doesnt work out well.

Anyone reading this who has resources or knows the City of Chicago, input is appreciated.

Tks.

Yes Chicago is really this bad.
Some continue to live in denial of it. Kind of like Trump denies he lost to Biden. But at the end of the day reality is reality.

I'm not entirely clear as to what you expected them to do differently.

The reality is that there’s been a pandemic most of the time the OP’s family member has been here. Many services are still limited because resources are stretched thin dealing with the issues related to the pandemic. if she’s living in a high-end apartment, it seems like she probably wouldn’t qualify for many of the resources available based on income.

How did Trump lose to anyone when the election is not even over with yet? You do know that the media does NOT select who the President is right? They think they do, but they do not. Ballotts are still being counted and many states right now are under investigation. Nothing is over and nothing has been certified yet. And Trump most likeley will be President the next 4 years

thanks for the responses. While I live in Vegas, prostitution is still illegal unless it is licensed. It makes sense about the pandemic and appreciate that insight.

That said, it does seem that, besides the health issues, that there are few if any resources for this type of activity. the police seem to have taken a "yeah, whatever" approach to this. It would seem to me that there are a host of issues with prostitution besides the act itself.

And being trans has its own set of issues that have no resources in Chicago.

Here in Vegas, if I contacted the police, they would reach out to someone prostituting themselves regardless of the socio economic status or where they lived.

I am 64 so my knowledge of prostitution, crime and being trans is severely limited.

Assuming this is even a true story, what would CPD or “IL government” do in this case? Social Services would probably be a place to start. I don’t believe this is a true story/post though.

Tried social services and I am more then happy to talk to you directly. I was reaching out to get a sense of what options there are. Pretty much like your sports teams in Chicago...alot of bluster.

I wouldn't ever talk to you directly. Pretty much like your sports teams in Vegas.......they don't exist (well I guess your weak city finally got a team).

OP, the biggest obstacle is that your relative is not a "kid" at 24, they are an adult, and unless they ask for help, they are unlikely to be approached by any agency, unless they are deemed incompetent (or are a "danger to themselves or others") - would you be willing to go to court to start that process, and do you have evidence that is indeed the case? Me, either.

If they are involved in illegal activity, odds are they will one day enter the "system", and be more open to help. Until then, as others have posted, there's not much the police or social services can do. I'm not personally experienced with trans individuals, but would not be surprised if this particular group was over-represented among those with mental health and other behavioral issues, as you yourself experienced with your relative. If this person has not completed the transition via surgery, I would also imagine they run a much higher risk of violence from a customer who feels they were taken advantage of via "misrepresentation of goods".

That being said, I think your odds of finding help would be much greater in the "private sector". For instance, perhaps GLAAD could point you to a specific social service group, or you could check out one of these:

Good luck in your search. But trying to help someone who does not want to be helped, is an uphill climb.
