Out of all the projects I want the city to start and finish is the massive expansion of the CTA. I look at Tokyo's metro as the standard to get inspiration from. One can dream.

A big part of what makes Tokyo's metro, and those of many Japanese cities, so good is that they have an incredible commuter rail backbone for transfers and suburbs to city not just as commutes, but visits. This often means frequent and relatively inexpensive trips throughout the metropolitan area. Chicago actually has a massive network of rail and existing rail right of way some of which isn't very heavily or at all utilized by freight which could be leveraged for that kind of network. There's been advocacy for a plan to make better use of such here:
