Unless you live in the city (doesn't seem like it). You didn't see the constant ads and have to throw out a pile of flyers every day. You weren't bombarded with campaign texts.
You didn't see how moderate Dems started out thinking Vallas was a moderate Dem after the first round and ended up thinking he was full-on MAGA by the runoff.
Nobody was losing sleep over it but the revelations, accusations and associations changed enough peoples' minds in a race where neither candidate was great. Vallas choked away a head start on support and campaign cash almost 100% because people started to see Vallas as the guy with an R next to his name.

Either that or undecideds watched him throw Awake Illinois under a bus after speaking at one of their events, then throw the FOP under a paddy wagon after gaining their their endorsement, then take completely unnecessary jabs at Trump and DeSantis on issues that had absolutely nothing to do with Chicago politics; and saw him as the transactional cynic he is, realized he'd be a puppet for institutional forces way bigger than him, and sat this race out rather than waste a trip to the polls on yet another election that will yield largely the same end result.

Thanks for the explanation of how propaganda works on morons. Can’t wait to watch Chicago crash and burn even more.

Also “moderate Democrats” are a figment of your imagination, as this election proves.

Dude what are you doing in the Chicago forum anyway? It's Tuesday you could have gone down to Delray Beach and saw the Rod Stewart impersonator or picketed some drag time story hour or whatever you guys do down there.

The FOP guy is a literal groomer (seriously his wife was a student at the high school where he was working security) so that union deserves to be thrown under the bus especially for re-electing him as their president recently.

Secondly look at turnout by ward - the wards that had some semblance of Trump support (e.g. My Greenwood. Edison Park) had high turnout and voted overwhelmingly for Vallas.

And thirdly you know better. Trump is about the most toxic brand imaginable in Chicago and increasingly the suburbs. You don't have to like it but you at least have to be realistic.

That would be relevant if he hadn't: a) he hadn't sought their endorsement nonetheless, and; b) thrown them under the bus for a completely unrelated reason.

I didn't say anything about wards that had Trump support, I was talking about undecideds. The wards you identify -- the two most thick with cops and their families -- were probably among the least undecided for Vallas (or more accurately, against Johsson).

That's nice and all, but what the hell does Trump have to do with Chicago politics and the nakedly transactional nature of Vallas that he simply couldn't help but put on full display?

So why did people not like Lightfoot? Not “progressive” enough?

They are saying that property taxes might jump up as much as 46%.

This is plain embarrassing for the city that Johnson won. How much evidence do people need that "woke" policies/politicians don't work, especially for a city like Chicago that is already hurting.

This is going to be really scary times for this city. I will be on the first ticket out if it starts to crumble. So sad for a once great city.....

I have purposely not bought a house and was waiting to see how this election turned out. I will now likely be relocating in a couple of years. It was my childhood dream to move to and live in Chicago. I never expected it to fall this far from grace. I am very concerned with Johnson at the helm....
