I got a job offer in downtown Chicago and I am planning on to move there at the end of this coming June to look for a studio apartment. I just graduated from a college and I never been to Chicago before. Which neighborhood would be the best for me to live in? I prefer close to downtown but cheap rent (Under $800) and also close to shopping district and nightlife. Thank you!

The communities of Lincoln Park,Lake View,Uptown,Edgewater I suggest. And yes you can live in any of them for around 800.

Default you will have no problem finding your price range

Come to the city and checkout the Lakeview, Wrigleyville, and Lincoln Park neighborhoods. Personally, I enjoy being within a few blocks of the Lake so as to easily enjoy the Park and jogging/bike paths. Lots of other young professional folks and I always feel very safe in these neighborhoods.

You can go to Chicago Reader and checkout the rentals in these areas (they offer a zipcode option and I suggest you try 60657, 60613, 60614). Keep in mind, some parts of these zipcodes are a little far away from the Lake. Some people prefer it, others don't.

Of course, you will also see a large selection of apt. rentals on Craigslist.com

It is possible. See, some people have a nose for deals others do not. I know buildings where you can.

Here are examples:
Large and light 3rd fl. apt (http://chicago.craigslist.org/nch/apa/692769527.html - broken link)

Large Studio in the Heart of Lincoln Park (http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/apa/691504169.html - broken link)

I will not reveal my inside sources though.

I'd recommend Edgewater; close to the lakefront, multiple stops on the red line and close to Loyola U, figuring you'd still wanna hang out with the college crowd. Extra police patrol in the area at night is a plus (I go to school there if you can't tell). Rent is reasonable in the area, 800 for a studio should be no problem.

As a college grad, I would respectfully disagree. I would look more in "hip" areas of town such as Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Roscoe Village, Wicker Park, Andersonville... just to name a few. You will have much more going on and it won't just be an undergrad crowd.
