Does everyone pay these tickets, voluntarily? After a time, they double. $100. $200.

Years ago, I got one in a suburb, forgot to pay it. Does the city have a rule or policy on enforcing and penalizing unpaid camera tickets? I read of a new Illinois law online relaxing this.

I always just pay them asap! Being Illinois I am sure they enforce it. They want their money you know

I've never heard of a voluntary ticket... I've never heard of them just letting it go but I guess I've never tried either.

Regardless, I pay them while wearing my red clown nose. It doesn't feel good that's for sure.

If you live in the city, pay it ASAP. Not only will your fine double, but after two tickets go into final collection, they can boot your car until you pay up. And then you have to pay the boot fee too.

Even if you don't live in the city, you'll most likely end up paying one way or another. If a final judgment is entered against you and you don't pay, the double-fine can be deducted from your IL income tax return -- plus an additional $25 administrative fee. So your $100 fine effectively becomes $225.

If you live out of state, ignore it.

Last guy is right.

Only if you live in Illinois will it matter.

The worst they can do is boot you.

Nothing with your license or record will be affected. Illinois made that illegal.

Well, and then tow your car 24 hours later. Then your fines and fees REALLY start to rack up, quickly.

In short: if you live in IL, pay it before it doubles. If you don't live in IL, toss it in your recycling bin and go about your life.

Yeah, well. They gotta catch you first.

Once they boot you, you're pretty good and caught.

So don't get booted. What I'm getting at is that if you don't park in public places on a daily basis, you're pretty safe. Plenty of people just go from private home parking to private lot parking.

Your license won't be affected and if a cop stops you they can't do anything.
