i am looking to move closer downtown too. My top 2 is one at dearborn and lake in the city center and one in Fulton River District. Both similar rent ranges 1500-1600 1 bedroom most everything included.

Good point. Though I think car ownership would probably be easier in Lincoln Park than in River North, unless you get into a newer building with a parking garage and can get a space with your lease. I lived near the Armitage Brown Line stop a several years ago, and parking was actually a piece of cake because all of the blocks were zoned and most of the housing south of Armitage is now single-family with attached garages. We were in one of two apartment buildings on the block, and one has since gone condo as ours was torn down.

I think $200/month would actually be kind of low for River North, and eastern Lincoln Park is also more expensive for parking.

Unfortunately I bought my car new a year ago so i'll take a big hit to get rid of it. I am going to bring it with me for a month or two to see how much I actually use it before I decide, but I definately like the idea of all the savings between parking/insurance/payments/depreciation. Thanks for the help.

Brand new cars and street parking aren't a good combination. Be prepared for a new scratch once a week until you reach the point where your car develops what I call "big-city bumper" where the bumpers are so scratched up -- literally dozens of scrapes per bumper -- that you can immediately tell someone lives in the city just by looking at their car bumpers.

There is a company (I forget its name) that makes clear plastic bumper covers that are specifically shaped for a car's model and year; if installed correctly you almost can't tell it's even there. That might be a good way to protect your investment.

There sure are actually. Boystown is not Irving Park to Diversey and the Red Line to the Lake for starters.

Go walk into the Jewel at Addison and Broadway any day of the week at any time and you will see plenty of women.

Uh huh. I think he might get scared off though, with all of the rainbow lights on Northalstead and the couples all over. Besides, there are more straight bars and such near Wrigley.

Even "Boystown" is only around 50% gay men nowadays.
Is there a reason you are afraid to be within a hundred feet or more of gay people?

You can think whatever you like about Lake View east of the Red Line.
Yeah there are many gays men around Halsted. But there are scores of hot women east of the Red Line. In fact the women east of the Red Line are better looking than the ones west of it and more of the ones east of it are single.

Did the OP ever say he was afraid of gay people? Dont assume that he is.

Your loss=my gain.
