Parking is going to be the biggest issue. It depends were you are going to live and if you plan on driving everwhere.

EEK! We plan to downsize from two cars to one car when we make our move next summer but I want to keep my Toyota FJ Cruiser - it's not as big as the pickup so I hope it's not going to be an issue.

You are going to need garage parking or live away from the lake on the SW or NW parts of the city for the most part, to be able to get away with having one of those.

Fuuuuuuddddddddggggggggggeeeeeeeeeeeeeee - seriously thinking of another word though

So if we rent a place in Lincoln Park or Bucktown that has a garage, I'd still have problems with parking it on the street?

Well crap. It's small compared to all the big @ss Hummers out here so I thought I could get by. I guess we'll ditch it and keep the car.

Thanks for the insight!

Thank you for the replies. I have driven my truck around Chicago plenty of times and it has been fine. I was looking at some high rises that had appropriate parking and I would take the train into work and just drive on the weekends. However, I think I am leaning towards the general advice on here of getting rid of it because of the parking and gas. Also, the time I have spent in chicago I have noticed as someone else mentioned that there is no such thing as a spotless car.....everything has scratches dents or whatever. I wouldn't want my truck to be subjected to this. Thanks everyone I pretty much considered this issue solved. Now if anyone has any suggestion on Hyde park in the city versus Oak Park....

Wow, i'm surprised to hear about the driving on Lakeshore and Diversey.

My roommate drove a pickup on Lakeshore to work every day for 5 years and never had a problem. We actually lived on Diversey east of Southport and parked on the street every day and never had a problem.

I moved to a different address on Diversey near Racine and I can tell you trucks and large vehicles drove ALL over Diversey. It was so damn loud sometimes!!
