Hi,

I am planning to send my 4-year old son to Day care (for the first time!). Can someone please let me know which would be better - a home day care or day care center? Any tips on searching and selecting day care? I live in Romeoville,IL.

Thanks.

Are you planning to send him to day care in the city? If not you might want to move this to the burbs forum.

All 4 year olds in Illinois are elligible for preschool for all. At 4 he would benefit much more from a structured and routine educational schedule than from day care. Many schools offer after care to match the flexible hours of day care.

There are good and bad daycare centers. And there are good and bad home daycares. You really have to decided on what you're more comfortable with on a personal basis. I once toured a home daycare where there were 11 kids with only two adults, and the infants didn't get much attention. I didn't like that much. I've also seen home daycares with a two adults to five children ratio. It really varies.
