When people think Chicago is the "Second City" because its #2 behind New York.
Theres a show on the travel channel right now about the two cities' pizzas, and they just claimed that was the reason.
Fact: Chicago is referred to as "The Second City" because of the Great Fire.

Just to add to things I cant stand: When the media refers to Michigan Ave as "The Miracle Mile ", I have heard it refered that way on at least a dozen occasions.

I can't stand it when people wear belts AND suspenders. Also, when people say "I could care less" instead of "I couldn't care less."

Agreed! Whenever someone says "I could care less", I always state back to them "So, that means you do care, at least a little bit" based on the implication of the actual statement.

Okay, tell me more. I recently moved here and haven't thought too deeply about the second city nickname. So, it became a popular nickname among city folks after the fire and the city was rebuilt?
