Back to the original topic... do any of the Loop hotels offer guest transportation to the stadium?

My advice would be to head down early and hit up a bar in the south loop, then walk to the concert... We went to the first show last sept, you will enjoy it!

Question Hotel near Soldier Field?

We will be attending the US Men's National team soccer game at Soldier Field on 10/09. Can someone recommend a good hotel near the field? Is it possible to safely walk to the field from any of the area hotels in the evening hours? Is that a stupid thing to expect in this area of Chicago? What about parking? Any local help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hilton Towers - yes you can walk back, you won't be the only ones.

Try the Grant Park Hilton.

If that's too pricey, try the Grant Park Best Western.

Its not a stupid thing to expect to walk after dark in Chicago. Some of us do this on a nightly basis, and many of us choose our neighborhoods based upon that criteria. Walking after dark is just fine in downtown Chicago, especially after a game lets out.

Its about a mile hike through the park.

Have fun at the game.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, both the Hilton and the Best Western are sold out for that night. There must be something else going on over that weekend as almost every hotel in that area are not available for that night. Pooh!

Well, I had better re-think our plans. I guess we will be staying further afield...

Yes, the Chicago Marathon is going on that weekend. Its going to be crazy as far as hotels go in the Loop.

You can pay $300+ for a room in a decent hotel downtown...or stay at O'Hare or Midway. The taxis will charge you about $35 for that ride home, so you woud still come out way ahead.

Good luck, and enjoy your visit.

Thanks slow nerve action! That explains why everything is booked up.

I can find several nice options near Midway. From my map, it appears that the Midway area hotels would be a more convienient option than those around O'Hare? Not to mention the obvious bonus of avoiding the O'Hare traffic mess.

There will six of us driving in that day. Would it be better to drive our SUV to Soldier Field and park there or find a cab from the hotel and back again?

If you can score a cab that will hold six people, that would be the best option. Splitting into two groups of three will also work. I wouldn't recommend driving to Soldier Field since it's going to cost around $30 to park for the day, and parking will be hard to come by on a busy weekend. Traffic will also be a challenge. If you're cheap and feel comfortable with public transportation, you can also take the 'L' (orange line) from Midway to Roosevelt and walk about 15 minutes to Soldier Field. This would take just under an hour and cost $2.25/person each way.
