Ok yeah Johnny come lately. How about you put as much time as I and many others have into organizing this forum into something readable. If not for us, the whole thing would be a total clustersmuck.

I can vouch for that: about ~6 brown faces out of ~100 there. A sign went up on the site last week, and no announcements were mailed or dropped to neighbors.

I think it is a done deal: the DPD guy said something about "moving forward with this idea" and got a hearty round of applause at the end; Rey seemed to take personal umbrage at criticism, and encouraged people to sign up to provide ideas on tweaking the design. (Of course, no one had actively solicited neighbors' feedback or big ideas before showing up with a landscape plan -- but they said something like four of CROP's five volunteers lived in LS or Avondale, so evidently that's just as good as surveying all 164,000 residents thereof.)

One common sentiment that some people snarled at me was that "this has been an eyesore for decades."

My wife (OP) and I currently live a couple blocks North of the California blue line stop. Our landlord is forcing us out of the awesome house we are currently renting at the end of our lease agreement in February because he now wants to move back into the house. My wife is due with our first baby in early March, so we are trying to figure out where to move to and trying to make it as easy on us, since she'll be 8 months pregnant when we have to move. We really really want to stay in Logan Square; we love this neighborhood. We're hoping that since he wants to move back in, that maybe he'll let us out of our lease early, so we have time to get a nursery set up in our new place and get unpacked before we have a baby on our hands as well.

What I am wondering is if Diversey between Kimball and Kedzie is a decent area. I know that generally the rule is that Logan Square seems to be safest to the East of Kedzie, but I don't know if that has changed any over the last year or so. I have found an awesome condo on Diversey, smack dab between Kimball and Kedzie for a good price and it's not far from the square itself, where I have never felt unsafe for any reason. And yes, I have common sense and know how to keep myself out of crime's way.

Anyway, any advice on that part of the neighborhood would be appreciated.

I live a few blocks north & I'd say pass. Diversey is a really busy street, you've got a few (although well maintained & generally not too troublesome) large section 8 buildings right there, the street itself has no trees so it's ungodly hot all summer, etc.

I'd have no qualms recommending the residential streets in the area, but I'd stay off of Diversey unless the price is really too good to be true.
