Hi,

I'm from Iowa and am going to be attending DePaul University next school year.

I absolutely love Chicago and want to live there well after my college years are over.

Since I want to live in Chicago after I get a degree from DePaul, I just wanted to be really on top of things before I move and such. Basically, I'm suffering from an extreme case of "senioritis" and desperately want to get out of Iowa.

My question is, what all do I need to do to become an official resident of Illinois and maybe (if it applies) to the City of Chicago?

I'm going to be living in the dorms my first year, but that doesn't count as an "official permanent address" does it?

Does everything to being a resident stem from having a real residence not in a dorm (e.i. getting a Illinois Drivers License, paying Illinois taxes, registering to vote in Illinois, etc.)?

Am I going to be able to do all of this while I'm at DePaul? Or will I have to wait until later? Can I maybe even do some things while I'm stuck here in Iowa?

Thanks for all of your guys' help.

Oh, and I've already changed my cell phone number to a 312 area code, if that means anything...
