One of the benefits of being an adaptable, intelligent omnivore: you can live pretty much anywhere!

And no, I wasn't talking about humans...

[The coyote] was believed to be part of a study of urban wildlife and is not considered a danger to the public.
Nope, I don't see any way that this could go horribly wrong.

Coyotes are pretty harmless. Much less dangerous than those idiots that let their massive dogs off their leashes in public and scream "OH HE'S JUST FRIENDLY!!" as it's charging your *** down.

They are mostly harmless to people. Ask anyone that lives in southern california/inland empire if they are generally harmless. They attack and kill dogs and cats by the bucketful in their own backyards.

Maybe it's a city plan to cut down on the rat population.

Very true. I've seen them chasing down dogs and cats here in the hills. Terrifying, really. I thought they were cute in Chicago, but my opinion has changed here in LA.

The problem is that people that live in areas bordering regions that would be considered "wild" do not seem to be very good at supervising their own pets. If you want to live in one of the far-out developments you need to learn about the risks of living near so much wildlife. Heck, it's a good idea to keep an eye on your pet even if you live in the middle of the city.

Nobody should have to worry about a coyote swooping in on their dog in a very urban public park in Chicago.

I used to believe this. A few years ago, Coyotes began entering The Bronx and even crossing over into Manhattan. I thought nothing of it, because coyotes are not native to New York State and a few coyotes here and there is probably a fluke.

But this year alone, there have been at least 4 attacks on children in Westchester County, suburban areas that have been developed for over 40 to 50 years. These are not "wild" or "far-out developments". Coyotes are now entering the inner suburbs and even our dense cities.
