Exodus 13:22
Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people.
Nehemiah 9:19 You, in Your great compassion, Did not forsake them in the wilderness; The pillar of cloud did not leave them by day, To guide them on their way, Nor the pillar of fire by night, to light for them the way in which they were to go.
I would think it safe to say that both the pillar of fire and the pillar of cloud are symbolic of God's presence in the midst of humanity, at least for the Hebrews.
I understand the fire more so because it is used frequently in the OT with purifying, trials, judgment, and it is written that God himself is a consuming fire.
My question is in the use of the clouds. I never really noticed how much clouds are used in the Bible but upon searching further I noticed that in Exodus 40: 34, 35 it is a cloud that prevents Moses from entering the Tent of Meeting because God's presence was there.
So why a cloud and fire? Jesus was hidden in a cloud upon leaving the earth and is said to be returning in that same manner.

Good article. I can definitely agree with the paragraph below.
"From this perspective, the symbols of cloud and fire are warning us to temper our love and desire for closeness to the divine with reverence and awe which engenders distance."
I don't suppose a "cloud" could be an alien ship of some kind........The prophet describes a cloud in his vision as a circular object made of metal with "beams" of light.

In thinking more on this issue, doesn't it make sense that during the day is a reference to consciousness thus the cloud of God is a beacon that you can get right up into and it doesn't hurt at all (there is no night in the kingdom). BUT if you are blinded and in darkness then God is the pillar of fire to you. The one that you can see but it hurts to get to close so you stay in that darkness (outside the gates of the city). God hasn't changed but man's perception of his presence changes.
The Temple of the wilderness and the Temple of Solomon built represents the shadow of the anointing presence for the Temple of Holy Spirit today ........ in 1 Kings 7: 21.....``and he set up two pillars in the porch of the Temple and he set up the right pillar and called the name Jachin, and he set up the left pillar and called the name Boaz....... In Hebrew Jachin means `He will establish`... In Hebrew Boaz means ` By strength`..........In the Temple of Holy Spirit Jesus set up two pillars of protection for the prayers of deliverance from the dark spirit that brings sin to the Temple of Holy Spirit to challenge the authority of Holy Spirit dwelling place for the Lord Jesus ..... this is a gift for all anointed Believers of Jesus Christ which will clean sin away and rip it out of Believers and prayers for other people to be cleaned in intercessory Prayers ........ But Anointed believers can only use these pillars of fire on their Temple of Holy Spirit if they pray in faith and it is better if they listen to the direction and discernment of Holy Spirit for faster Work in the spirit ....... So if you know that the Lord need you clean, then pray for the Baptism of Holy Spirit were all power will come and the promise of the Blood of Jesus is evident, and if your church don`t believe that then change churches Jesus wants you clean; body, soul, and spirit......
