In the verse Jesus was referring to the spirit of the devil working through peter, it was certainly the devil who was telling Jesus he really didn't need to die for our sins. Peter had no understanding of the Glory God was going to shine on Jesus that day, he thought Jesus was supposed to be an earthly king...

Peter's spiritual discernment did not take place until the rooster crowed three times...

From this one would conclude God wants Satan to deceive many people so they go to hell. Which is strange, because I don't think that is what God wants.
We know that the waster was created to destroy, and that God hates flesh - so I come to the conclusion that God has Satan on a leash, and he is doing his Master's bidding by attacking the carnal nature.

"The prince of this world is come, and has nothing on Me", said Jesus - and that shows that the nature of Christ is immune to darkness.

God could get rid of the devil; but He has to get rid of material devils first: as sung 'Fire is the devils only friend.' That meant that God got rid of the devil in Miss American Pie.

1 Cor 5:5 hand this man over to Satan, so that the sinful nature may be destroyed and his spirit saved on the day of the Lord.

Lord God could have wiped the devil and Adam and Eve out back when he made man in HIS image and then Adam sinned..... HE could have wiped out the devil after the cross of Christ, but He didn`t WHY? Because He give all the Children the finished Works of Christ and everything is theirs and everything of Jesus is for all the believer All they have to do is ask and all the blessing is theirs... So with all these blessing he left of the earth for the time being, the challenge , the devil and all his fallen angels, who is there to challenge the gifts and blessing of the Lord because he has no other challenge from Heaven for believers...... So what about all those people who are not being blessed by the Lord ? Well The promise of the Lord and his blessing and gifts are there if they reject HIM them that is their loss

If you believe Satan is a third-party apart from man then you will miss the message. You will not understand the mystery of who Satan is.

Jesus was tempted by the Satan - as in the consideration of being disobedient. That consideration of the disobedience came from His own mind, His own being as being a man. And His DOMINANCE of that consideration shows His Triumph over Satan or more importantly over OUR OWN SELVES. Its no wonder that Jesus says we must LOSE our Lives to save it. If SATAN was all that was the cause of all mans sins then why EVER would Jesus say that we must DIE in order to be SAVED???

The fact that Satan is not a thirdparty shows that the heart of Satan is decietful above all for that Satan is us.

Jer 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

That fact is that this knowledge of Satan being You and Me and everyone else is a MYSTERY until God reveals it to you.

Remember Jesus called Peter "Satan":

Mat 16:23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

He was talking to Peter.

Eph 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

When ones heart is in union with God is it still deceitful above all things?

Home is where the heart is, and if your heart is directed towards Satan and all that is his, then and only then is your heart deceitful above all things. It is because of the focus of ones heart that makes the heart deceitful or not, not the heart itself.

Read about what it says about the waster in the Septugient LE and you will see that it says something totally different then what you beleive it says.

It actually reverses the meaning
