It is apparent, however unfortunate, that many DO believe that Gods plan had been to select a few and dump the rest. It's like a kid who breaks the toys he doesn't like and keeps the select few he does. Is god a 9 year old child now?

I don't think that's what was meant by be as children to the gospel.

Read the parable about the wheat and tares. The tares (unbelievers) are gathered together and burned and the wheat (believers) are gathered together into Jesus's barn (heaven). Matt.13:24-32

The tares will receive kolasis aionion (age-during corrective chastisement)

Sooner or later everyone will have and use saving faith.

Greek scholar William Barclay wrote concerning kolasis aionion (age-during corrective chastisement) in Matthew 25:46
"The Greek word for punishment is kolasis, which was not originally an ethical word at all. It originally meant the pruning of trees to make them grow better. There is no instance in Greek secular literature where kolasis does not mean remedial punishment. It is a simple fact that in Greek kolasis always means remedial punishment. God's punishment is always for man's cure."

See what other Greek scholars say about it too.

Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power.................Rev.20:6

And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death...........Rev.20:14

The second death is eternal punishment in the lake of fire, experienced only by the unsaved. Once this final judgement occurs, there is no further need for either death or hell (Hades). An eternal seperation is now made between those who have life and those who have death

Everyone who experiences the lake of fire which is the second death will be saved out of it.

We know this because they will receive kolasis aionion (age-during corrective chastisement).

A snippet from
THE UNIVERSAL RESTORATION – ELHANAN WINCHESTER

“The reason why I do not conceive that “forever and ever” doth intend endless duration is because I find the words as often used for times and periods that must have an end, as you find them used for the misery of the wicked. You bring three passages which are all that are to be found in the whole Bible where they are used in that sense; I shall now invalidate those evidences for endless damnation by bringing an equal number of texts where you will allow the words are used in a limited sense. Is. 30:8; Jer. 7:7; Jer. 35:5.

These passages are as many and as strongly expressed as those which you brought to prove endless misery; and yet nothing can be more evident than that they cannot intend endless duration. The words do not necessarily imply that the wicked shall never be delivered from their sins and consequent suffering.

Now if the words “forever and ever” signify without end, then there is a contradiction that cannot be reconciled, but only understand them as the ages of the ages, (as indeed they ought to be rendered), and the whole difficulty vanishes at once.”
