I just wanted to know if Christians believed in the fire of eternal hell and whether it was literal in the sense that the unbeliever is on fire, set on fire, lit up, ignited, torched, fried, burnt,I know you are a Christian who is not sure about this anymore, and in denial that Christians believe in a literal fire. I would have said yes to all descriptions as a ex believer in it,including being thrown into it. The best way to find out is ask Christians what they think ,right?.

To be honest, I'm not sure what that would be either.

Yes, as a former fundamentalist I believed it was LITERAL. I was constantly burdened for other people to "turn or burn" and did nothing but worry. I was consumed with the condition of other people's souls and because of this awful belief that I was taught it drove me to the brink, along with other things.

RodgerTutt talks about his nervous breakdown that he had over the ET belief and I have to say I can certainly understand where he's coming from on that. I wasn't hospitalized but I should have been. It's the most heinous of beliefs that exists and I, for one, will do everything in my power to spread the actual "good news" of Jesus Christ being the Savior OF THE WORLD, not just a select few.

It's a literal fire, but(not...oopps) as we know it. God has the power to create a fire that doesn't burn.
"Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up"

One day those who reject the triune God, people that reject Jesus as their 100% subsitute by faith alone, will experience what the bush did in Moses' time.

Luke 16:23-24
In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. So he called to him, â€Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’ .... Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’

The question is... why would Jesus tell such if there was no truth to it?

Why doesn't the rich man request that he be permitted to leave hell (instead of asking that Lazurus go) to warn his brothers if there is the ability to leave hell?

As our pastor said this past week...
The people in hell saw something that never occured, nobody having the ablity to do. When Jeus went to hell to preach condemnation to the damned, after he was done ................. Jesus left.

Matthew 25:41
“Then he will say to those on his left, â€Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

Since God has the power to create this special fire that never goes out, in effect you are saying God sets people on fire forever - in a literal fire - similar to the burning bush... is that right?

Which translation of the bible says that Jesus preached condemnation to them? And which translation calls those spirits damned?

Ditto. My experience was very similar. I worried all the time about people going to or being in literal hell fire with no hope of relief. And I struggled for years and read hundreds of books to try to understand why, if it worried me so much (to the point of sickness) why God didn't seem to care about those same souls. It's an insane state of mind, but it works pretty well for sociopaths (people who are void of empathy).

It's the widespread belief of fundamental Christianity and to try and to suggest it's a minority view Finn you have to be in denial, lying or you have your head so far buried in the sand, you would have no idea.
