Adults still have the right to smoke if they choose and punishment for things like this is best left to the parents.

The legal system has usurped too many parental rights when it comes to discipline. See where it's brought us too?

When I was a kid, we were spanked when we screwed up. I spanked my kids when they needed it. There's something about an open handed swat across the rear end that really helps focus a kids attention on good behavior.

Now, even raising your voice to an out of control child is considered abusive. Um, hogwash!

Next time you're out shopping, just look around at the out of control kids and the way their parents deal with the situation. They "count" at them, tell them "no-no" but usually give in to what the child wants in the end.

Just to clarify, I don't advocate beating children with belts or hairbrushes. I just advocate a little tough love.

I would advocate beating children with belts on the behind. Yet with forcing teens to smoke an entire pack is just dangerous. (Could wind up killing them in a worse case scenario) It is much more effective to just tell and even show teenagers the results of smoking over a life time. Show them that they could develop lung cancer and so on. I believe that is more effective and safe.

Some kids, yes, AND the parents who spawned them!
But, I digress.

One pack of cigarettes is highly unlikely to cause lung cancer. You have a better chance just breathing the air in any large city. I think the father was engaging in a little aversion therapy, the point being to make his son so sick of smoking that he won't EVER want to do it again. Believe it or not, it has it's merits.

Aversion therapy, it works. This thread doesn't even belong here, but over in parenting. The fact his profession is that of a pastor in irrelevant, for his is foremost a parent.
