He caught his son, 14 years old at the time smoking and to punish him so he wouldn't do it again he made him smoke at least an entire pack, the son said he hates smoking and won't do it again. But the pastor committed a crime, in happened in New York, the kid is underage. What punishment should this pastor receive?
This punishment has been happening for centuries, it is probably a crime because the pastor bought the cigarettes for his son who is a minor and cannot legally smoke.
He forced his son to smoke an entire pack of cigarettes? He pretty much made his son addicted to smoking! Even if his son never smokes again (I know he said that, but his body may now have a different opinion and will crave for more cigarettes later on), most of the time people who begin to smoke will become addicted to it, and it is very hard to stop.

If I had preached the dangers of cigarettes to my child I sure as heck won't make him smoke a whole pack Maybe take away the phone, the xbox, the computer, etc and give extra chores to fill the idle time without his games and texting..
Hefty fine and community service to the preacher(?) dad...."to teach him a lesson" ......like he said he was doing for his son

Parents have been doing this for generations to kill the attraction to cigarettes that too many young teens have.
From what I've seen, it is a very effective method of keeping kids from ever wanting to smoke again.
It sounds harsh, but if it keeps a person from being a life long smoker I'm not so sure it was a bad thing at all.
If there has to be punishment for this parent I'd say community service should cover it.
My sister caught her son smoking. First she made him tear up the entire carton and then she went out and bought the biggest, smelliest cigar she could find. That's what she made him smoke.
It worked. He no longer smokes.
I have to side with the father on this one. Seriously, weigh the health effects of one pack against a life long habit.
Yet I wonder that if this is such an effective method, why is it not officially used on teens, and effectively remove cigarettes from society as a whole? I'm willing to bet this method didn't work more times than it did work.
I know a number of people who have never again eaten a certain food because of contracting food poisoning. So, I can see how this might deter someone from every lighting up again.
My MIL will not eat eggs because as a youngster she was pelted with rotten chicken eggs.
What makes you think a pastor is different than anyone else who you might not agree with?
