First Council of Nicaea - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As a Catholic, I accept it.

reject it. There were other councils after that one, they were trying to crush the heresy that came out of the nicaea one.

I reject it.

(Perhaps a poll asking this question would have been nice.)

Are you referring to Arianism? The Nicaean Council rejected it.

Why do you accept or reject the Nicaean Council, or any of the other of the first seven ecumenical councils between 325 and 787?

Because they were non inspired men just like any old schmo.

I reject them because I do not believe matters of a spiritual nature should be determined by majority vote. In my opinion, if all revelation ceased with the deaths of the Apostles, God was not directing the council. It was not even convened at the request of the Pope, but at the insistence of an arguably non-Christian emperor with a political agenda. The resulting vote determined the what would be "orthodoxy" in the future. Had the vote gone the other way, Christian "orthodoxy" would be entirely different today than it is. As far as I'm concerned, truth exists quite independently of the way human beings may choose to define it.

According those who accept the outcome of the council, though, they were inspired -- at least the ones who voted with Athanasius. Problem is, they were all bishops. They were all equally entitled to have divine guidance in choosing how they would vote. So how can anyone really say some of them were inspired, but others were not?

I do not believe being a bishop = "equally entitled to have divine guidance".

Our divine guidance is only found in the Bible. That isn't "worshiping" or "idolizing" the Bible like some here say. It's only acknowledging that the Scriptures are scared like they say they are.
