Something interesting...are there any Christians that would deem plastic surgery as a sin and if so, please give personal or biblical reasons to explain.

Weather...

well..I for one dont have a problem with it...Im sure one could find "reasons" for not doing it..but we are human...we want to feel good about ourselves. I dont think its always done because of vanity..

I don't have a problem with it. There are some circumstances that it would not be vanity at all (reconstruction after a car accident, get rid of excess skin after extreme weight loss) in those cases, it would almost be a necessity. Even if someone had it done just because they wanted it, if they can afford it, go for it.

I don't think Vanity is a matter of trying to improve things or of looking your best. I think it's an attitude of, "I'm the best, the smartest, most beautiful, most deserving."

It's also that holier-than-thou attitude that too many seem to have. You know what I mean, "My way is the right way and you are wrong." That's what I think Vanity is.

Plastic Surgery is more because of a feeling that something is amiss, or just not good enough, maybe a feeling that the crooked nose is inferior to a nice straight one. At least, that's my humble opinion. Maybe it's insecurity.

Now, as far as a boob job that goes from a 32a to a 38d, I don't know what you might call that. 'Tain't Vanity and it sure isn't good sense. When we reach a point where it's a sin to be stupid, then a lot of us are in for trouble.

Default kaykay has a change of heart...

It used to bother me that Joyce Meyer, a Bible teacher I liked, had plastic surgery done on her eyes. I don't why that bothered me but if I'm honest, it did. Now I wear cosmetics etc, but I guess the plastic surgery thing just seemed like taking it too far.

That was about 10 years ago. Since then... I'm 52 now and I have aged a bit. My own eyes don't look like they did when I was 25! Somehow I began to understand Joyce a little better!

Personally, I have no intention of having plastic surgery because I kinda don't do "pain" well and that's elective pain! But my attitude has changed. I'm no longer judgmental about it.

I think concern about our appearance, like a lot of things, is about "balance."

Time does change things, doesn't it.

I can understand people having faces fixed, especially eyes. I am just a fraidy cat, even if I dared risked the pain and the chance of things going wrong, I'm too cheap to spend the money.

Besides, I wouldn't want people wondering what that good looking woman was doing married to that old coot......must be his money!

If plastic surgery becomes an obsession with one where its all about oneself and nobody else, then I consider it vanity. All one can do is think about oneself, a selfish person. We take our eyes off the Lord, when we become highly obssessed with this type of vanity. We deem ourselves better than others with this narcissistic behavior We should be happy with what the Lord gave us.

Now see, I fully believe that stupidity should at least be a crime...maybe not a sin, but a CRIME! Some people should have to PAY society for dealing with their stupidity!!! Like this guy for example:
Man tries to pass off $1 million bill - Criminal Peculiarity - MSNBC.com

And yes, stupidity should also include those women that opt to get so large that they not only put themselves at risk for multiple black eyes, but for anyone else within a 5 ft radius! "Officer, she poses a hazard to herself as well as others...couldn't you at least call it 5150?"

Do I think it's a sin to have plastic surgery? I think God would rather that we be happy with the way He made us. If He wanted us to have those bigger D's, He would have given them to us. If He wanted us to have those sucker lips, He would have given them to us. If He wanted us to have that perfect body...ok, I'll stop here! There are some things about our bodies that we CAN change, but we have to WANT to make the necessary sacrifices to do so. But then there are things that are God given...perhaps He wouldn't mind if we altered things a bit, however, I kind of look at it like a present. How do you feel if you give someone a present and they go doctoring it up and changing it from it's original form in order for them to like it?

You're young, kawg. What if we are just "trying to get the gift back like it was when we first received it?"

(See Padgett's and my remarks above!) But I know what you are saying.
