Hi, TroutDude. Tried to rep you but as usual the CD system.....
Anyway, often we have to remind Fundamentalists that the world doesn't revolve around their belief system and that Fundamentalism makes up only about 1% of mankind, thus this crazy idea that only 1% of mankind gets saved while the other 99% perish in the eternal fires of hell.
Nobody, including me, is arguing that man is a spiritual idiot. The biggest problem with Christian fundamentalism is that they think they have all the answers:
1. God loves only them, looks out for only them, and intends to save only them
2. everybody outside of Christian fundamentalism is destined for hellfire
3. you only get saved if you do exactly what they and their leaders tell you to do
If that's not idiocy I don't know what is.
I share your disagreements with fundamentalism.
1. God loves everyone.
2. God may save anyone, anywhere at any time.
3. You only get saved if you are pleasing to God when you die.

This is the Catholic position.
Hope that helps.
Then what exactly do you think Jesus accomplished? I am of the belief that He already did the saving. It is finished. Please explain this idea of pleasing God when you die to be saved. What exactly is being saved?

It is normatively necessary to believe in Jesus and to be a formal member of His Body, the Catholic Church.

It is not absolutely necessary.
Uh..oh..... so in this Catholic orbit even the Evangelicals aka Fundamentalists aka Traditional Christians are not saved because they are non-Catholic. I used to be Catholic. I used to be Fundamentalist. I'd better get my order in for an asbestos suit since I'll be pulling double torment in hell.
Jerwade, my tone and presentation style change from poster to poster and thread to thread.
I've noticed that, but you have to get beyond the mentality of: "I'm right, you're wrong."

If you wish to have a charitable discussion on any subject related to Christianity in general or Catholicism in particular, I would be happy to chat with you, and I can be very engaging when the company is pleasant.
So, imagine we're at a Starbucks enjoying a quiet morning...what would you most like to discuss or ask?
Can I please have a large "Caramel Macchiato!" Thank you, for the offer, but not much to ask at this point.
