I reject the man-made church, ie...the Christian denominations. The true church of Christ is not any of the denominations and all of their rules.
The Bible was written by men. God did not write the Bible.
Jesus spoke, but did not write anything.
Quote:
John 21:25
25 Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.
And all those other things are part of the Oral tradition; the Apostolic Succession. And you walk away from that because it was not written down by men.

"The Bible says"??? How do you know what the Bible says? In order for anyone to know what the Bible says, you first need to know 1) that there is a specific collection of writings that is called "the Bible", and 2) which specific writings are included in "the Bible", and which are not. The book that you refer to as "the Bible" never refers to itself as the Bible (indeed, the word "Bible" appears nowhere in Scripture), and it certainly never suggests that there is such a thing as a canon of scripture. So where do you get that idea from?
You claim you know what the Bible says, which indicates that you believe you know which books are inspired scripture, and which ones are not. Since the Bible is silent on this question, how do YOU, MORebelWoman, YOU and no one else, know which books you should regard as inspired scripture, and included in the Bible, and which you should not? If one man says to you "The Book of Baruch is inspired Scripture, and is included in the Bible" (and most Christians would say this), and another says "The Book of Baruch is not inspired scripture, and should not be included in the Bible", how would YOU be able to tell which one was right, and which one was wrong?
On whose authority other than the Bible's (because the Bible never addresses the question) are you accepting this list or that as the true and complete canon of scripture?
You people who have a problem with my saying that I don't consider myself religious really need to get a grip. I have never seen so many who have no understanding of what I said. Too bad. I am glad that was able to get educated when I did. Anyway, I am not going to argue with all of you anymore because it is not worth it. I will let you all argue amongst yourselves, so go right ahead and I will continue to read your replies for humor. All I can say is it is very sad that so many have so little understanding of the Bible and what I said. tsk...tsk...tsk

As long as you "do not forsake' gathering with other Christians in a congregation setting as scripture teaches then you would not be rejecting the Church. There are some that I agree are more man-made than they are church but to not gather at all is a total rejection of Jesus Christ's Church. You do realize that don't you?

Oh, but I do gather with other like minded individuals. We basically have a home church, so to speak. We have our Bible studies and our praise and worship and such. I do not forsake gathering at all. I do attend other mainstream churches when I feel the need, but on Saturday.

WRONG!! Because we do not have any rules, creeds and such. BTW Julian, you really do need to learn how to live without having this need of yours to argue all of the time. You want the last word? Fine, then have the last word. It doesn't hurt me one way or the other.
While religion is difficult to define, one standard model of religion, used in religious studies courses, was proposed by Clifford Geertz, who simply called it a "cultural system"
"Religion: A general term used... to designate all concepts concerning the belief in god(s) and goddess(es) as well as other spiritual beings or transcendental ultimate concerns."
~ Penguin Dictionary of Religions (1997).

"Religion: Relation of human beings to God or the gods or to whatever they consider sacred or, in some cases, merely supernatural."
~ Britannica Concise Encyclopedia (online, 2006)
