Gifts of the Holy Spirit enable us to live a holy Christian life. The Gifts of the Holy Spirit are:
1. Wisdom - desire for the things of God, and to direct our whole life and all our actions to His honor and glory
2. Understanding - enable us to know more clearly the mysteries of faith
3. Counsel - warn us of the deceits of the devil, and of the dangers to salvation
4. Fortitude - strengthen us to do the will of God in all things
5. Knowledge - enable us to discover the will of God in all things
6. Piety - love God as a Father, and obey Him because we love Him
7. Fear of the Lord - have a dread of sin and fear of offending God
One might ask where those definitions come from. Some of them seem to me to be based on a misapprehension of the nature and finction of the Spirit in directing our lives as opposed to directing our doctrines.

Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would bring back to our remembrance what Christ spoke, taught, warned and so forth to our hearts.
Jesus also called Him the Comfort and our Helper and that the Spirit would come and lead us into all truth and is here to guide, protect, teach, everything that the Christian needs in this life pertaining to Christ and their walk in Him .
The Christian also should know that God's purpose was not only to save His people from their sins, but also to fill them with the Holy Spirit, as on the day of Pentecost : "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" (Acts 2:38).
While the Holy Spirit indwells every believer, yet God both offers and commands us to be completely filled with the Spirit (Eph. 5:18). This blessing is granted only to Christ's followers who hunger for the Spirit and, in an act of faith, God purposely open their lives to this complete indwelling. Jesus promised that the heavenly Father would "give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him" (Luke 11:13).
It is this life of deepened fellowship with God to which Paul exhorts; "If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit" (Gal.5:25).
Now this involvement of the Holy Spirit in the lives of New Testament ppl takes on a new importance, Jesus described Him as the Helper (John 16:7).
He will help us to understand the truth about Christ (John 16:14) and will apply the work of Christ to our hearts.
He encourages us (Acts 4:31),
He guides us (John 16:13) and illuminates the Scripture for us (John 16:14-15).
He gives us power (Acts 1:8),
He intensifies the love of God in us (Rom.5:5),
and He helps us in prayer (Rom.8:26).
He enables us to reflect God's holy character (Rom. 8:13-14, Gal.5:22-23) and strengthens our potential for Christian growth (Eph.3:16) .
As we can see He is a very important part of the Christian' life . Without Him we can do nothing according to the will of God and His kingdom, amen !

13However, when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak what He hears, and He will declare to you what is to come.
Is in NO way primarily about illuminating scripture
Thanks ! Actually I'm here all the time reading just not posting like I use to !
This thread about the Holy Spirit is a good subject especially to listen and learn from others when they share their experiences in walking in the Spirit . It's one of my favorites .
The Son of God who saved us ALL from permanent separation from God by bringing God's Holy Spirit to His human consciousness and connecting ALL human consciousness to God. When He died He was "born again" as Spirit, as we will be when we die. Now He abides with us within our consciousness as the Comforter sent in His name to guide us to the truth God has "written in our hearts."

The answer is "No." To "believe ON" Jesus has nothing to do with what you claim to believe ABOUT Him. The phrase often translated as "believe in" ispisteuō eis which is used in the NT of the conviction and trust to which a man is impelled by a certain inner and higher prerogative and law of soul.
No one says God doesn't hold us accountable for our un-love . . . but having what you consider the wrong belief is not subject to accountability. God has no ego needs that must be assuaged by our fawning over Him or His Son. "Belief on" His Son is an inner conviction to Christ-like attitudes toward all human beings that results when we listen to Christ's Holy Spirit (Comforter sent in His name) within guiding us to what God has "written in our hearts." THAT is the "believe on" Jesus that matters . . . not what you proclaim to "believe in."
Since we have the Comforter within our consciousness each and every one of us has access to this inner and higher prerogative . . . whether or not we claim to call ourselves Christian. This is what Paul referred to as the "law written in the hearts" even of unbelievers . . . who are a law unto themselves. As Paul states it in Romans 2:14
. . . When the Gentiles who have no law do by nature what the law prescribes, these having no law are a law unto themselves. They show the work of the law written in their hearts. Their conscience bears witness to them, even when conflicting thoughts accuse or defend them.

Without LISTENING to Him and following His guidance to the truth God has "written in our hearts" we can do nothing right. Following rules in words "written in ink" is NOT following the Holy Spirit.

Amen, nate. The Holy Spirit illuminates the truth God has "written in our hearts" NOT what men have "written in ink."

Since the Bible (2nd Timothy 3:16,17) is written in ink, wouldn't God's spirit illuminate His words.- Psalm 119:105
Since the Bible at Jeremiah 17:9; 10:23 warns us Not to trust our hearts because the heart is deceitful, then wouldn't written Scripture be our focus as Jesus taught that in Scripture we find religious truth - John 17:17; John 17:3
The deceitful heart is like having a traitor within us. First, the heart tells or prompts us to do something, then after we have done it, then the heart gives us all the reasons why we should Not have done what we did in the first place.
You really need to read 1 Cor 13 because your so-called Gifts of the Holy Spirit contain things incompatible with the Holy Spirit of agape love who IS God. Fear casts out love and love is what God wants from us. Love casts out all fear and Christ is our SAVIOR so our salvation is NOT in our hands. It is finished by Christ. Your #6 and #7 are the recipe for a Godfather offer you can't refuse . . . NOT an offer from our Father God!. It says love and obey . . . OR ELSE! That is NOT of our Father God.
Sometimes in the English language we confuse the word fear with meaning just fright, or being afraid, or being scared.
In Bible speak, Proverbs 1:7 mentions the fear of God...... Not meaning being in fright but rather: reverential fear.
Reverential fear as a loving child would Not want to displease a loving parent.
So, then 1st Cor. 13:4-6 would be harmony with having 'reverential fear' of displeasing our loving Heavenly Father.
