John 5:25

"Very truly, I tell you, the hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.

John 5:29

those who have done good, shall rise to live,
and those who have done evil shall rise to be damned."

Notice that those who do good live.

So Jesus actually tells us that to hear His words ,his voice ,one must do good.

Let us not forget that He also said that whoever is of the truth hears His voice.

So again as I have said, it is all about spreading the word and keeping it alive.

"Whoever is of the truth hears my voice."

So those who do good, who spread the truth and spread Gods word, hear God's word and rise to live.

Can you see it?

At John 5:29 that ' resurrection of damnation ' is of adverse judgement, but based on what the dead do ' after ' they are resurrected and Not about what they did before they are resurrected.- Romans 6:23,7.
As Acts 24:15 informs us there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and unrighteous....
As for the wicked, they will be 'destroyed forever' as per Psalm 92:7
So, at 2nd Peter 3:9 we the living are given the choice to ' repent ' ( do good ) or we could 'perish' (be destroyed ).
Thus, at the soon coming ' time of separation ' to take place on Earth as per Matthew 25:31-33,37,40 we want to have a favorable judgement so that we can remain alive on Earth and continue to live on Earth right into the start of calendar Day One of Jesus' coming 1,000-year governmental rulership over Earth begins.

I find unlike Pilate who said "What is truth..." at John 18:38 that Pilate was talking about 'general truth'.
Whereas, Jesus at John 17:17 (Thy word is truth) was speaking about ' religious truth ' ( biblical truth, God's truth )
So, yes, those who do good, who spread the truth (of the Bible) and spread God's Word (Scripture) just as Jesus said to do at Matthew 24:14; Acts 1:8 about the good news message about God's kingdom of Daniel 2:44 do ' rise to live '.
* First, the living ' rise ' in a spiritual sense remaining alive spiritually by producing the fruitage of God's spirit as listed at Galatians 5:22-23.
* Second, if they die before Jesus' coming 1,000-year reign over Earth begins they will have a favorable judgement.
* Third, if we the living are alive at the soon coming ' time of separating ' on Earth as found at Matthew 25:31-33,37,40 then we can remain alive through the coming great tribulation of Rev. 7:14,9, and be part of that great crowd of people who are saved (delivered / rescued) alive to be the foundation start of Jesus' millennium-long day of governing over Earth in righteousness.

The key here is that in order to hear one must do good works by spreading God's word. Saying one doesn't have to do good works is showing that those who say so don't hear. Their theology is flawed and in direct opposition to Jesus teaching.

"Your light must shine before men so they will see your good works and glorify your heavenly Father."

Good point ^ above ^ because as James 2:26 wrote faith without works is dead .
This includes a ' spiritual work ' as in cultivating the fruitage of God's spirit as listed at Galatians 5:22-23.
Yes, the spreading of God's Word (Scripture) especially as Jesus instructed to do at Matthew 24:14; Acts 1:8 to tell others about the good news of God's kingdom of Daniel 2:44 on a grand-international scale just as it is being done today.

It's not being done correctly.

Paul failed to do so and the disciples failed to do so.

"Blessed is he who hears the word of the Lord and keeps it. "

Again here Jesus described those who hear it as those who keep it. As in keep it alive.

So keeping it is spreading it. Not by putting down verse numbers but by quoting it.

The dead from John 5:25 who hear the voice of God are people who are receptive to the truth which God nurtured ,... Like from Matthew 16:16 when asked Peter said ``You are the Christ , the Son of the living God , and Jesus said Blessed are you Simon Peter son of Jonah For this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood , but by My Father in heaven ``...................Where people who are dead in the spirit would be those who live the lie and ignore the truth .....

You need to BELIEVE.......

Romans 10:9 - because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

And believing is doing works. The works of God.

Jesus described believing as doing the works the son of man has done.

"Whoever acts in truth comes to the light so his deeds are revealed as works of God"

"He who believes in me shall do the works I do and far greater than these...."

It’s not about quoting it, it is about guarding it

Look at the context of when that word is used

G5442 (Strong)

φυλάσσω

phulassō

foo-las'-so

Probably from G5443 through the idea of isolation; to watch, that is, be on guard (literally or figuratively); by implication to preserve. obey, avoid: - beware, keep (self), observe, save.

I look at blue letter bible to see the usage

It seems that the idea is to not let the word be corrupted
