I read the speech and I agree with what he said on religious fundamentalism. It is a problem, not a solution.

Religious fundamentalism doesn't have to go to the point of decapitation. Religious fundamentalism would be literal belief in scripture, that only Christians go to heaven, denying science, and many other things where people think there is only one right way and everyone else is wrong.

Very weak statement Vizio.

The Pope is correct, extreme fundamentalism is not good. We've been there done that and we know it leads nowhere.

It feels great to be a Catholic this week!

Some still have doubts the Pope is the Vicar of Christ, but Francis is the MAN.

Jesus was the most politically incorrect fundamentalist on the planet.........He plainly stated that HE was THE way, the TRuTH, and THE life..........there is nothing else and no other way you can be saved..........

Regarding the OP... Pretty much shrugging my shoulders on that.

I heard he did not mention God... No prayer either. Is that accurate? I will read a transcript later.

The Pope does not pray for show. As the Vicar of Christ he simply delivers the message God wants delivered.

Methinks the cardinals who elected Francis figured they were putting a care taker Pope in place.

Wrong.

He is bringing the Catholic church kicking and screaming into a modern era. Now, if the SBC and other fundies could have a similar "revelation", their denominations may slow their deterioration in numbers. I don't see that happening, as they all think that they are "right" and everyone else is not.

Heck, most of us atheists actually would applaud that, just as most applaud Pope Francis making the Catholic church as an institution actually meaningful to people.

Still think the whole god premise is wacka-a-doo nuts, but, hey, if it actually does some good and does no harm, bring it on.

The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

How about narrowing it down to just those religions that subscribe to an apocalypse?
