10 Now I exhort you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be made complete in the same mind and in the same judgment. 11 For I have been informed concerning you, my brethren, by Chloe's people, that there are quarrels among you. 12 Now I mean this, that each one of you is saying, "I am of Paul," and "I of Apollos," and "I of Cephas," and "I of Christ." 13 Has Christ been divided? Paul was not crucified for you, was he? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?
14 I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 so that no one would say you were baptized in my name. 16 Now I did baptize also the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized any other.
17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not in cleverness of speech, so that the cross of Christ would not be made void.
Divisiveness is the first issue brought forth by Paul to the church at Corinth.
For them, they boasted in their church leader to the point that they were arguing with each other. Today, we identify ourselves with and focus on denominations instead of simply being Christians which gives the impression of disunity among those in the faith. Denominations can also be a false sense of security. Paul mentions that some were boasting of being in Apollos. People who wanted to become part of that assembly may have identified themselves with Apollos, and not Jesus Christ. Today, some could be Catholics, or Protestants, or Methodists without being one with Christ.
Why is this issue important? Christ is to be paramount above all other associations. We should have unity in Him.
When Jesus prayed to the Father in John 17, He prayed for our unity.
John 17:20-24
20 "I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; 21 that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 "The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; 23 I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me.
Avoid denominational disunity. We (those who believe in Christ) are perfected collectively in our unity.
One would think that the Christian God would not have allowed his religion to fragment like this, but as they say, mysterious ways.
God never created a religion that he could watch over, he took his abode in us and said seek me and you will find me. Yet we still look for him in every place but where he is and blamer him for everything wrong under the sun. There is no longer a mystery...... it's been solved......... Christ in you.
The only unity God has is one obedient believers praying for other church`s and not condemning them , so it is one Child of God at a time , as these will ignore the disunity of any leader who is out of bounds .............Then the other unity God has is His Holy Angels who are all in Unity ......... See the spiritual discernment of division of the body of Christ is the spirit of antichrist , as Jesus has to share a cup with those who cup with this devil
No. Baptism method is a detail. Music style is a detail.
