I would suggest you re-read it.

Do you have a problem with what Christ said? Or do you have a problem with my comments? Because I simply highlighted what He said, and recalled what He did with regards to satisfying earthly needs.

What part of "Where they go off track is that they suggest Jesus wanted to use earthly means to cure those problems." did I misunderstand?

Because if He focused on earthly problems in what He said, He would have not have mentioned preaching the gospel to help the poor. You are off track in assuming He is referring to the physically poor.

I follow Christ the way my heart and every fiber of my being has directed me to follow him. Have compassion for the needy. Stand up for the oppressed. Feed the hungry. Educate the illiterate. Visit the lonely. Take care of the sick. Do this because HE did it. Do this because it is the good and right and decent thing to do. Do this because it will make the world a better place. Do this because easing the suffering of people is a good thing to do.

As you can see.....I'm not a far-right fundamentalist. Yay.

If eternal punishment after death is a Real Danger, then taking care of that infinite problem is obviously going to be more important than taking care of finite "worldly" problems. It's perfectly rational to worry mainly about "saving souls" if Infinite Spiritual Danger is real.

You don't get it.

#1... If you were really following Christ with every fiber, you would see me as a brother in Christ and drop the fundamentalist descriptor which is divisive and against the unity that Christ desires among those in His family. I ignore it, so I don't care, but I'm just saying for your sake.

#2... I'm glad you want to make the world a better place. That's not what Christ came to do. He did not die for this present world... He died for our status in eternity. He helped some people with regards to their earthly needs in order for them to join Him in the kingdom of heaven.

Just exactly the deflection I already mentioned. "The Gospel" IS "the good news" and that is NOT limited to the story of Jesus' life and ministry, but ALL of the good news.
