Just exactly the deflection I already mentioned. "The Gospel" IS "the good news" and that is NOT limited to the story of Jesus' life and ministry, but ALL of the good news.
That THE basis for social interaction for everyone is concern for the well-being (in all aspects) of everyone in any situation! The FOUNDATION of the New Covenant is LOVE!

See Matthew 25
Woohoo!
Interesting... I think you are off base a bit, but I won't go into it.
Matthew 25 ?? Love ?
There is the parable of the ten virgins where five are locked out of the feast because they did not have their lamps ready.
There is the parable of the talents where the people who invested and cultivated what they had was rewarded, and the one who was given the least and did not do anything was reprimanded.
And then there's the section on the division of those heading for eternal punishment, and those heading for eternal life.
Doesn't seem representative of love and well being on earth... what am I missing?
If eternal punishment after death is a Real Danger, then taking care of that infinite problem is obviously going to be more important than taking care of finite "worldly" problems. It's perfectly rational to worry mainly about "saving souls" if Infinite Spiritual Danger is real.
Exactly the point. You and I disagree about the fact that eternal salvation is an issue..but you seem to understand the position.

Nice try, but look at the end of Romans 9 for a more thorough and accurate description.
verse 33
33 as it is written,
“Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense;
and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”
Behold= Listen up, I have good news
I lay in Zion= God centered
A Stone of stumbling= Christ centered
A Rock of offense= Cross centered
and whoever believes in him= Grace centered
Will not be put to shame= Eschatalogical hope

A word from Yoda, for those who fear their eternal destiny:

You are missing the well-known reason for the division of those who are in immediate community with God and the ones who are not. .... it's because of their acts of (or their failure to act in) love. Why am I not surprised that you missed this?

Did you make that up, or do you have some authority on that?
