When I was growing up in the IFB church in the 90s, homosexuality was talked about when an election was coming up but outside of that, people weren't talking much about it. Instead, the focus was on things like adultery, sex outside of marriage, cursing, drinking, and especially the increase in profanity and nudity on TV that was happening at the time.

Today, it seems like conservative Christianity is spending so much energy throwing stones at the LGBT community they are growing more tolerant of these other things that used to be very controversial. The attitude goes along the lines of "it's a sin that he's living with his girlfriend and isn't married, but at least he isn't gay." Exhibit number 1 is Mike Huckabee's treatment of Josh Duggar. Compare that to what he said about Michael Sam.

Does anybody else notice this trend?

The conservative pagans did these same things. Famous liberal people had to protect homosexuals from the fear and disgust feelings of conservatives even back then. The conservative-religious have prioritization's of their fear and hate and a knack for hypocrisy. This was true even of ancient pagans.

Fundamentalists (whom I consider to comprise the bulk of conservative Christians) are extremely tolerant of their own sins.

They forgive themselves pretty much constantly. They just have to tell Jesus he's their guy and sins pretty much just roll off them. They instantly become Teflon Christians©.

(In their own, little, narrow minds - where ideas go to die.)

Gays, however, are beyond redemption if they do any of the bedroom stuff that fundies dream about so very, very often.

Yeah the double standard most fundies have regarding homosexuality is mind boggling. Their theology also falls apart when dealing with this issue. Most fundamentalists believe in salvation by faith in Jesus Christ alone. If you are homosexual however, you must either convert to heterosexual (not possible but in the fundie mind its as simple as attending a three week camp) or commit to a lifetime of celibacy in addition to having faith in Jesus Christ. If that is the case, then either...

1. The sin of homosexality is the ONLY sin that is not covered by faith alone in Jesus Christ

2. Homosexuality is the unforgivable sin

3. Their theology is completely wrong, in which case those throwing these stones will be in for a big surprise on judgment day

I think reality is fundies has such deep hatred towards the LGBT community that their religion is morphing into nothing more than an organization dedicated to hating these people and making themselves feel superior because they aren't gay.

"Not paying the workers".

This is no longer considered a sin. Good news indeed!

LOL, TroutDude, that may be the most appropriate title for a group committed to pointing at other people that I have ever heard.

I'm gonna steal it and make it my own!!

Teflon Christians. And Jesus wept.

Rep I.O.U. to you.

Conservatives have always been tolerant of sins other than homosexuality. They're hypocrites. That's why they have the highest rates of pornography viewing, gluttony, teen pregnancy, and seem to always get caught in pedophile or sex scandals.

All [willful] sin is damnable.

Romans 6
[20] For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
[21] What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
