Is salvation the ONLY justification for claiming a relationship with god. If your god just announced--ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS HELP OTHERS...would that satisfy your need and would that be the basis for a relationship with your god?
Christians are redeemed. Salvation is the most important thing God has done for us. Only then can we do works that please Him.

You seem to think eternal life is just a reward. It's also anout making us right, as God intended. If this life was all there is and there was no chance to actually be with my creator, the motivation might be different. Not sure.

great question, as Christ announced exactly that, at "Love your neighbor; this fulfills the law." but a Fundie will not allow that this is salvation.
