Baptist, not knocking the bible, it indeed is a blessing but many godly people throughout the ages have lived without seeing one.
I agree. And Romans 1 says that people know there is a creator simply by looking at creation.

But we have direct and special revelation from God in his inspired, written word. We KNOW for a fact when we open and read it we are reading the words of God. Why would we not put that above something that we are unsure of?

No, you don't. But I am sure you believe that.

Maybe I should have been more clear. Christians believe it to be God's inspired Word.

Some, for sure.

Fundies, absolutely. But they're new to the Christianity game and by far in the minority.

And shrinking.

Believing you are SPECIAL because of what you believe is absurd.
However, I am sure you believe, what you believe to be true.

And if that inspires you, great. But it doesn't make it the truth.
This "us" and "them" mentality is a human construct of religion.

We DO have a direct and special revelation from God...the law is already written in our hearts. Treat others with respect and love others....isn't this in our hearts already? All we have to do is obey and not give in to our selfish impulses.

The bible, remember, can be interpreted a million different ways and people use that to justify many things that are not of God.

Yes, we do have revelation from God--we all know what is right, and what is wrong. But our hearts do not tell us about Jesus, or God's plan for salvation.

The issue is that our hearts are deceitfully wicked, and we are tainted with sin.

I believe you are describing yourself and completely agree with your assessment.

But that's the only person for whom you can speak.

The Bible says that about all of mankind. It's because of the sin nature we are all born with, inherited from Adam.
