why not simply stop?

I don't get it. Christians were told via their bible what's sinful and what is not. Sin apparently bothers your God and if the sinning Christian also believes in hell, I REALLY don't understand why they don't just quit sinning.

If I believed hell was real, I certainly would not covet my neighbour's wife. Probably not even if she was Susan Sarandon.

So, the question is, why do Christians continue to sin?

Because, as Paul writes in Romans, Ephesians, etc...we are all slaves to sin. We are born of Adam, and we have a sin nature.

You mean all Christians are such slaves, presumably -- since you don't speak for animists, or Jews or Buddhists or agnostics et al.

Can you not shed your sinful shackles? Or do you just expect your God to keep forgiving you all the time you fall victim to your sinful nature?

Actually, Ephesians 2 states that all of mankind are slaves to sin, as children of Adam. Whether or not you believe in God is irrelevant.

Just look at the world today. Look at the depravity in our culture. Every day lately there is someone new being accused of sexually assaulting someone.

When Christ returns we will be given glorified bodies and we will live with him in Heaven for eternity, and there will be no sin. But for now, we should strive for holiness, but John said the one who claims to not have sin is a liar.

You're avoiding the question.

The "depravity" in our culture is not what the thread is about.

Why don't YOU stop sinning?

It seems you don't wish to accept responsibility for your actions, figuring your God will clean them up for you.

Because as long as I'm in this body, I will struggle with having a sin nature. It's the human condition.

No, you are a slave to sin because you are sin conscious rather than righteousness(God) conscious. You sin because you believe you are a sinner, you do not believe you are the righteousness of God or are becoming it, if you did that would be your testimony, you're testimony is you are a sinner. Speak for yourself when you call folk sinners.
