OP, nice post!

Yes, from that verse in Luke & early Church Fathers I can see that Jesus is teaching us that spiritual relationship is much more important than even bloodline/physical one;
To focus on His/higher perspective; By putting Christ first, that thru Him, the power to love all others, even enemies, can be realized.

Toxic people want to be the center of attention; it's their religion that takes precedence.
However, only a "cult" would ask that you forsake your family for the worship of a deity.

They truly do not understand Christ's Good News Gospel message of agape love and forgiveness, Jer. They are mired in the wrathful Godfather interpretation of "believe or else" fear Hell and damnation.

Yes, ' hate ' in Bible speak, so to speak, is to love to a lesser degree. For example: Luke 14:26-27,33.
We don't have to literally say goodbye or give up one's belongings but that they do Not hold an important place in one's life.

Both Matthew and Luke were making statements of relativity. Jesus is to be loved more than father and mother. One is not required to actually hate their parents. Luke uses stronger language than Matthew to express the principle that Christ is to be loved more than parents. Neither Jesus nor Luke were ignoring the 4th commandment about honoring Father and mother.
Exactly the point as stated ^ above ^.
