Some deem anything that doesn't have valid baptism to be a cult. By standard tradition among most branches of Christianity non-trinitarian baptism is invalid. Where I'm not sure on that is "Oneness Pentecostals" as I think they do baptize "In the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit" yet they do not believe in the Trinity. As I understand it they see these as just three names or titles.

Anyway I don't take the position that invalid baptism makes a group a cult. I think cult has one of two meanings. It's either a term for any specific devotion (To Mary, etc) or it refers to a totalitarian faith community proned to abuse or criminality.

On topic my sister works at a Methodist church. Once she said the "St. Anthony prayer" to help find a lost object and I think it was the only time they kind-of criticized her religion. So I'd say from that that Methodists do not believe in intercession of saints. In fact I'm not sure any Protestant denomination believes in the intercession of saints.

Well the non-trinitarians and the trinitarians both believe in the father ,son, and holy ghost. To me its kind of a tortured distinction without a difference. The trinitarians seem determined to be seen as monotheistic...in word if not in practice, while the non-trinitarians believe they are seperate ....but their 'jobs' within the Godhead are the same in both traditions. I personally didnt ever believe in the trinity, even when i attended methodist and later baptist churches.

This would imply that Protestants don't believe in guardian angels and that is not true

I read where where rigorous doctrines and dogma can't be applied to Methodicism as a whole.

A guardian angel is not the same thing as a human who has died and gone to heaven, which is what the Catholics refer to as "saints".

well, I'm Catholic, and I believe we have guardian angels always watching out for us and trying to help us as an extra intercession on our behalf. Also, I heard something quite beautiful once that an angel is 'a messenger from God' so through any Godly communication, we are all angels! so sweet I didn't hear that from Catholicism though I heard that at college and it always struck me, like wow this lady looks at everyone like an angel. I think of saints like 'specialists' if I go to a special doctor and am treated, it is from God yes, but he uses this little specialist to do so.

Default Cults

Hey all

I as was reading the Topic, Methodists and other churches are very similar except cults like Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses where they require being dressed in a suit as for woman in decent clothing.

I can tell you something about the Jehovahs Witnesses they are real strict if you was baptised and u went against the bible ie celebrating Birthdays and Xmas this can result in a Formal Warning and can result in being disfellowshipped and shunned until the person repents.
Word Disfellowship means No Assocaitation with the Witnesses until you reinstate also they often broadcast who is disfellowshipped to other JW's.

I have been mixing with them for 8 months and it was very bad idea after I found out after leaving the cult. Lets say if you been involved in a cult like the Jehovahs Witnesses and Mormons when you leave it you will experience something called Post Cult Trauma Syndrome which is practically a Nervous breakdown after extreme withdrawl from cult syndrome. Some Disfellowshipped people often Suicide or end up ill over this requiring hospital treatment.
Result of me leaving this cult was Post Cult trauma Syndrome and Anger towards them and near to stroke after smoking due to stress and seek cult exiting counselling.

This problem did resault in losing faith in the bible for 2 years but after reading revelations and comparing to our problems last couple of weeks made me go to church but I am very cautious in looking for a true church and not a cult.

You are best away from Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons they are not good for you a lot of people at work noticed that in me and just told me recently what was I like at that time.

As for Lack of belief in trinity in these 2 cults that is very correct.

I do go to church I thought was Church of England but this person calls it the Methodist Church but it lovely and lively in there and no dress codes. This church does use the New international Version of the bible I do have this one at home too as well as King James V bible. 1 Thing I do like about this church is u can just go how you want

Do Methodists believe in the Father, Son, Holy Spirit? (God is all 3)
What do Methodists think about Jews?
What about Zionism?
Do Methodists have church Sunday morning and night?
What about Once saved always saved?
Do Methodists use KJV?
Do Methodists pray to saints (like Catholics)?

I know Methodists baptize in multiple ways while Baptists baptize one way.

I am thinking about visiting a methodist church, are there any dress codes? (Baptists do not, you wear something "nice" and that's it) Can you just wear a dress shirt and that is good or do Methodists wear suits and ties?

Thank you.
I'm just curious.....after leaving institutionalized church....why would you want to go back?

Well, I attend a non-denominational church and I love it. Seeking a certain denom. shouldn't be on your top list, you should want to be where God wants you and places you. When Jesus comes back He want be looking for a Baptist or a Methodist church, but His church. I would say seek God and ask Him where He wants you and you will be in the right place...... That is what happened to me. God placed me where I am.
