yes, the Old Test should only be read in the 'light" of the New.
The New is far better than the Old.
Not that the Old was useless, but for the Christian the Old serves us as a teacher.
A teacher that brings us to the next and better class.
Once that teacher has finished with us, then we come to the higher class and leave behind forever the class we were bound within.
Christians are not bound under the Old system.
Christian are alive under a whole New system.
The Old Testament depicts God as an angry, wrathful, vengeful God and some people like that side of God's personality more than the kind, loving, forgiving God of the New Testament. People tend to put more emphasis on the side of God that more closely reflects their personal outlook on life.
Did not Christ dispense with the Old with the New dispensation? Isn't that the reason why Jesus Christ came, to set the record straight, so to speak.
No, Jesus came to complete the pre ordained plan, God promised Eve in the garden-to die for our sins- Jesus came to seek and save that which was lost. We can still learn from the old testament furthermore we still follow doctrines of the old testament unless told not to in the New Testament. It is all God's word.

Great point .
19"It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God. 20Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood. 21For Moses has been preached in every city from the earliest times and is read in the synagogues on every Sabbath."

I can agree to a point, that Jesus Christ did come to fulfill a prophesy and to die on the cross for our sins, but He was also a Great Teacher. And it was through His enlighten teachings that we are suppose to grow from. Is not His words greater than all the prophets, even though those prophets received God's word through visions or even visitations of angels. It is why God chose to become man and through His Son Jesus Christ did He enlighten the world. Does not Jews and Islam live pretty much by the Old Testament?

I agree Alan. So when the Second Coming of Christ is complete do we dispense of the "Old" New Testament? for a New Dispensation
I do not think anyone can really know God without knowing the Old Testament. But, it is no longer the law that we are to live by. We have been studying a lot of the Old Law, and it is so good that we are no longer bound by all it contained. Thank God for the new covenant.
These days it's become difficult to profess Christianity in the Christianity forum itself.
<time to head for the gym>
Thanks
