I believe that's true Paul.... but in that verse "longsuffering" is old-english that just means "patience".

I think this passage shows in type & shadow what you are saying. Joseph dealing with his wicked brothers...
  • Genesis 42:6 And Joseph was the governor over the land, and he it was that sold to all the people of the land: and Joseph's brethren came, and bowed down themselves before him [with] their faces to the earth. 7 And Joseph saw his brethren, and he knew them, but made himself strange unto them, and spake roughly unto them; and he said unto them, Whence come ye? And they said, From the land of Canaan to buy food. 8 And Joseph knew his brethren, but they knew not him.
Here Joseph begins to torment his wicked brothers.
  • Genesis 42:9 And Joseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed of them, and said unto them, Ye are spies to see the nakedness of the land ye are come.
  • Genesis 42:15 Hereby ye shall be proved: By the life of Pharaoh ye shall not go forth hence, except your youngest brother come hither. 16 Send one of you, and let him fetch your brother, and ye shall be kept in prison, that your words may be proved, whether there be any truth in you: or else by the life of Pharaoh surely ye are spies.
Yet he weeps for them.
  • Genesis 42:24 And he turned himself about from them, and wept; and returned to them again, and communed with them, and took from them Simeon, and bound him before their eyes.
And by the end of their proving, Joseph weeps uncontrollably for them.
  • Genesis 45:1 Then Joseph could not refrain himself before all them that stood by him; and he cried, Cause every man to go out from me. And there stood no man with him, while Joseph made himself known unto his brethren. 2 And he wept aloud: and the Egyptians and the house of Pharaoh heard.

The things of God are a mystery. We read his word but there is still so much we don't know. I have always thought I chose but the older I get the more I have come to understand that we were chosen. I don't understand how it all works. We feel at the time of conversion that we made the decision but God knew beforehand, he knew us in our mother's womb. When it all seems crazy I think of the verse in Judges where it says, "will not the Judge of the word do right". I don't have to understand it all but believe that God in his perfect character will do things that are just and right and loving. I'm so thankful that He has a plan and is working it out for His purposes.....

Thanks for that Driftwoodpoint. It is pleasing to hear of the praise you have in the confidence of God's Power.
