God doesn't say overeating is an abomination to Him as He does say concerning homosexual acts.
God doesn't tell Israel to take those who are fat and found overeating outside of town where all the leaders are to stone them to death as He does for homosexual acts. Through entering into the death of Christ this is fulfilled for homosexuals today. They are freed to walk in newness of life through the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. The anwer to the claim, "I was born this way" is, "That is why Jesus says 'you must be born again.'"
The misguided are not defining disapproving thought about obese persons a crime as they are about homosexuals.
The concern Christians have about homosexuality is laws against certain thoughts that can be used to shut down churches for hate crimes, though they'll probably try to use the IRS first by revoking their non-profit status. It's not trying to help the overweight that will bring fines and imprisonment for those who try to explain the application of the Bible's words concerning homosexuality. We don't know if the government will become like it did in the Soviet Union, still is in China and almost all of the Moslem world, making the Bible contraband and persecuting those who have it or teach according to it. Who do you think were the millions purged by atheistic socialist regimes of the 20th Century?
In Canada one man is responsible for something like 70% of the cases brought against people under their "Hate Crimes" legislation. Just to be brought before Canada's 3 person civil rights tribunals can mean tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars court costs for the accused, even if the case is dropped without any conviction. That pretty much ruins most people. One man whose articles were published in a Roman Catholic Journal is accepting contributions to help pay for his more than a hundred thousand dollar debt for a dropped case.
There is a big difference between gluttony and sexual perversion. This difference is multiplied when people are trying to legislate an acceptance that the Christians will never grant, no never, not even on the pain of death. It's a pity that any society is too blind to see where such persecutions take them. Increasing acceptance for homosexuals in our society, actually it is almost total acceptance in the urban gay subculture, has not brought down the gay teen suicide rate. It is only acceptance by God that can satisfy the human heart. God requires changing your mind and turning away from your sins, including homosexual behaviors. The real question is not, "Will you accept Jesus?' but it is, "Will Jesus accept you?" You cannot enter that other realm which is God and where He is in control if engaging in or submitting to homosexual acts, though many like that have been cleansed, made holy and declared innocent by the Holy Spirit according to many personal testimonies and the Bible as well. (cp., 1 Corinthians 6:9-11)
A comparison with another sin can be made, that of alcoholism, a very bad habit. Homosexuality is just another dirty habit. You cannot be under Jesus discipline, at least according to Him, unless you deny yourself and take up your cross daily to follow Him. Self denial isn't much different for anybody. There's no special exemption for homosexuals, even if men's government create such categories. It's a lifetime battle of such magnitude it is good to remember that, "...as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. (2 Corinthians 1:5, AV) The cross is society's rejection and public humiliation of you, proclaiming you have an identity you don't have and treating you like a criminal for being a saint, just so you know what to expect.

wow...how awfully insensitive this thread is...and reading this post...even worse......
...do you even care if you may be hurting someone...?...obviously not.
How is this different than railing on homosexuals? They have feelings too ya know...How many times have I heard that sins were equal....Apparently not...Your sins are kept quiet, but others sins are castigated.

In the eyes of God, sin is sin...it doesn't matter if it is what we consider a big sin or a little sin...it's all sin to God and keeps us separated from Him. I believe that anyone who lives in their sin and continues in that sin and calls that sin good in the eyes of God is just living a lie...and that lie will catch up with them in the end. All of goals should be to live a life worthy of the life God has given us. If someone is trying to overcome their sin, I am confident that God will provide the means for them to do that. But if someone glories in their sin, there will be a huge price to pay for that.

Beautifully put, I agree....

I don't feel I am "dissing" obese people...merely pointing out that the Christian community, at large, overlooks certain sins, while pointing out others, that don't apply to them. They are being selective in their so-called morality. I don't think the Lord is pleased with that, although certainly I cannot and would not deem myself worthy to speak for Him.
And I don't post "for" anyone, I post what is on my heart at the time...

This is a legitimate question. Is gluttony a sin? The bible states gluttony is a sin. Why are we making it controversial . . . ????
Good question.....perhaps because it's easier to jeer others, than confront your own failings.......? Certainly more convenient, less bothersome.

Let's go then, I need to get "to go" for Sundance if he does not show up. You wanna go lifesigns? Let's go indulge in the coolest/sweetest/most wonderful of the seven sins
I am a woman, a woman, I tell you!
But seriously folks, if I have offended anyone, I do apologize. I also would like to apologize to folks such as bchris02, a man who has stated he has prayed and sought God for his homosexuality, and receives nothing but condemnation and judgement here. Heterosexual christians are not the only ones who have feelings....we are not the only ones.....morality is how you treat other people. Have a little compassion. They are a work in progress, as we all are.

Luke Chapter 7: 34-50
34The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!
35But wisdom is justified of all her children.
36And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat.
37And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,
38And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
39Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.
40And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.
41There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.
42And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?
43Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.
44And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.
45Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.
46My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment.
47Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.
48And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.
49And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?
50And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

I just socialized with a bunch of nice folks from my parish and I was offered a huge slice of chocolate cake
It would have been rude to deny, so I ate it and on the way home, hit the gym and spent 30 minutes on the indoor rower , despite spending 2 hours in the gym this morning.
So, Camps, Tony can Burger King all week long. Get me that double whopper and where are the noble veggies when you need them. Let them see bad boy bite on that baby cow As for gluttony, confession's next saturday and the priest will be happy to write it off.

But this is rectifiable. The people stop eating and that's it. Can the same be said of other sins

I wonder...not only about what the Lord thinks about this whole thread, but what someone who may post here among us, that we all feel to be very endearing and sweet, but we have no idea that they may be lonely, hurting and struggling really bad about their "condition"...and find solice and security here on the forum because no one can "see" them...but accept him/her because we cannot see them...and maybe they don't have any other friends, other than us to converse with because no one will just love them where they are...like I hear so often "preached" here by so many that this is how we should be...this could have just slapped them with a double wammy...now they know that even people they otherwise thought were their "Christian Forum friends" would not accept them either...if they really knew...
If there is someone out there reading this, and you are hurt over this...I am so sorry.
