I wanted to start this thread for some general information about the CPS Magnet Schools Enrollment Process, specifically SCPA.

I realize the Fairview campout has already started. Does anyone have any experience with SCPA, how far in advance should I begin checking the school for a line? What is the interview process like once application is submitted on November 19th? The CPS schools and SCPA itself does a poor job of relaying information. Does anyone have a current child enrolled at SCPA? I know there has been negative information in the media lately, but I am still convinced this is a highly- recommended and art-focused school, that I would want my daughter to attend for the next 13 years.

Is there a group for parents wanting admissions so we can communicate to each other when the line begins, etc. I know Fairview had such group and I am sure they will b+e a very close knit group by the end of the 19 days.

Are there any other Magnet schools that anyone would recommend? I am partial to SCPA because I think my daughter would thrive in such an environment. She shows a natural appreciation of the arts.

Thanks,

Rachael

As the parent of two children in a CPS Magnet school I have discovered that there is almost no communication from the CPS community about enrollment. You will not find the majority of these schools "advertising" for students. Most don't need to- parents are beating down the doors to get their children enrolled. These schools are truly hidden gems.

My advice is to diligently check the websites for dates/ times and follow their directions to the letter. Make good friends with the office staff, schedule tours if you can and be patient.

Check this link for information on the k-3 enrollment procedures for SCPA.

I hope this helps a little.

The fairview parents have a perverse pride in the camping out thing. It really isn't needed. For both SCPA and Fairview, note the enrollment dates and arrive at the appropriate office first thing in the morning.
