After all, in contrast to mass-circulation magazines (Forbes, Travel & Leisure, Bon Appetite, etc) that rely upon sensationalized, opinionated fluff pieces presented as objective fact (best cities for entrepreneurs, Millennials, restaurants, etc), "Site Selection" magazine is a prestigious business publication aimed directly at a professional readership.

Therefore this particular recognition was no mere subjective "flavor of the month award," but an irrefutable annual ranking of metropolitan area economic development projects actually completed--and, in such regard, the Cincinnati metro placed 3rd (behind only Houston and Chicago).

Here's another, more concise summary of same:

I believe good economic development data for the Cincinnati Region is definitely good news. Economic development has to be a key factor for what can be pursued for the well being of the citizens of the region. Congratulations to whomever is primarily responsible for this happening.

I was elated to read this. When I start looking for a new job later in the year it means my odds of finding something quickly have jumped. Nice to see Chicago bouncing back as well. Actually thought about moving there if it did not appear that I could make the move to Cincy. Thankfully now, it does look like I will be moving to the home in Covington this Summer and will be looking for a new job prior to or after the move.

I'm not sure about that site magazine. The past decade Cincinnati has been in the top 10 in that ranking yet other places has less expansions BUT produce 10 times more jobs.

One should not expect Cincinnati, due to its size to be able to create the same total number of jobs as markets like Houston which is twice as large, metro population wise or Chicago which is almost five times as large in total population. Job creation based upon a per capita figure is a more reasonable way to determine how strong job creation is in the area. In that respect, Cincinnati is doing quite well now.

Some good points. My Puddy Cat has more acclimation to physical reality than 90% of the humans I know. If we all exhibited the same traits this would be a decent world. She is currently lying on the floor grooming herself next to my desk. She will be downstairs in a couple of hours waiting for her can of food. But that will be the highlight of the day. If everything else went as smooth as her day we would all have a good life. Is she just lucky to have us take care of her? I believe so, but her attitude is a primary ingredient.

You could probably get the most accurate picture of the region's job creation by taking the total number of people of working age (16 to 65 years is a good base) and then divide that into the total number of jobs created to come up with a percentage of jobs created vs. the size of the population. I think such stat's may be found at the Dept. of Labor's website.

Good to hear that you'll probably be settling in Covington (hopefully along with plans for that small radio station). Therefore, these two recent NKY business articles may be of interest:

Rather than mix apples with oranges, how about allowing this positive business news to simply stand for what it is? Please keeping in mind that the magazine's a specialized professional publication aimed at a "select"professional audience (pun intended).

Why not give "Site Selection" magazine a glance yourself (as I often do) at the main library downtown or take a look at the publication's website article highlighting both Cincinnati and Louisville, and giving mention to both Columbus and Dayton:
