Cincinnati radio icon Jim Scott will announce his retirement Tuesday morning, a source confirmed to The Enquirer.

Scott is set to cede his 700 WLW-AM morning show slot after more than 54 years on radio in the Queen City in a live announcement scheduled for 7:07 a.m. Tuesday, a source with direct knowledge of the situation told The Enquirer Monday night.

WLW was promoting on its website a "Big Announcement" from Scott that was scheduled for 7:07 a.m.

I'll miss listening to him while going to school in the mornings.

Sounds like a good announcement. He has been an icon of the airwaves. So as they diisappear who will pick up the slack?

Hopefully Mike McConnell will be offered another daily slot. He's currently a fill in host after departing WGN in Chicago last year.

I think five generations did the same thing. TBH I was shocked he was still alive, let alone broadcasting. When a "blonde-sounding" voice used to chirp "The Jim Scott Show!" on WSAI to kick off his time slot goyguy was knee high to a tadpole.

When I retired 20 years ago, Jim was nice enough to mention it on his morning broadcast. Best wishes.

When I was in the first grade in the early 70s, I remember listening to Jim Scott on WSAI on a radio fashioned into the belly of a stuffed toy raccoon that my grandfather bought for me at Radio Shack. Hmmm. Jim Scott and Radio Shack, two institutions coming to an end in 2015.

Radio died with the Clear Channel invasion IMHO. These other developments are part of the ongoing ripple effect.

My guess is that Jim Scott is being "retired" in the same way Bob Connors (on WTVN since the mid-1960's) was "retired" from WTVN by Clear Channel. One morning he was interviewing Jeff Rapp, a Columbus sports guy, and Jeff was congratulating Connors on a great career and "being able to go out on his own terms". Bob's response was, "Well, not really."

If what happened on WTVN gives any indication, they'll hire someone completely pedestrian and unlistenable. But then again, they have a back up on WKRC and they can always move Jerry Thomas Jr. (forget his first name) into that spot.
