My new daily commute has me passing by this abandoned tower. I remember it was a Sheraton hotel back in the early 90's and nice enough. Then it changed hands a few times, deteriorating a bit it seems with each new owner. Now it is closed and dark as I pass on 275 in the morning.

Just wondered if anyone knew why this place has never succeeded? Plenty of traffic and easy access from 275, with a seemingly similar location as the successful Holiday Inn near 42 and 275.

It was closed for several years due to major mold issue. Like you said, went through several owners. Who knows what the future will bring?

I had no idea the posh hotel where one of my best friend's 1990 wedding reception was held had fallen into disrepair. A bit of poking around the internet led me to a blog post about the old Sheraton. I wish the post still had photos but reading the description will have to suffice.

When I was a kid, this was the location of Springdale Lake, a pay fishing hole. When they drained it to begin construction on the hotel, the mud and shallows were full of big catfish, carp, and others wriggling for survival. I imagine that a lot of the fish escaped into connecting waterways, but these unlucky ones fell easy prey to enterprising kids and other scavengers.

My dad and I also met the developer of the condos that went up on the hillside overlooking the hotel. The man told us that when they built those homes, the excavators starting bringing up buried Indian artifacts, apparently in significant quantities. Rather than report it and jeopardize his project, he kept it hushed up, sold a lot of the stuff and kept on building.
