In terms of what?

In terms of Lakes, Minnesota has everything over NY. We have bigger lakes, deeper lakes, larger Great Lake shorleline, more lakes, and a much more significant ''lake lifestyle"

All but 3 of Minnesota's 87 counties have Lakes in them.
Minnesota has more boats per capita than anyother state.
Nearly 1/3 of Minnesota's residents have a 'cabin', 'campground', or 'resort' situated near or on a lake.

Plus, Minnesota's has 4 lakes that are bigger than the biggest lake in New York.

Plus, The Great Lakes are awesome, but I wouldn't soley base a state on having a lake culture because they border Great Lakes (MI).

Minnesota (in acres)
1. Red Lake - 289,000
2. Mille Lacs Lake - 133,000
3. Leech Lake - 112,000
4. Lake Winnibigoshish - 59,000
5. Lake Vermilion - 41,000
6. Lake Kabetogama - 26,000
7. Mud Lake - 24,000
8. Cass Lake - 18,000
9. Lake Minnetonka - 14,000
10. Otter Tail Lake - 14,000

I tried to find a list for your beloved New York State, but there is no such list around. Not even your state's website shows the largest lakes in the state.

I'd think Lake Michigan is 1st and then the Red Lakes in MN.

The Lakers got their name from Minneapolis.

If this is true then it must be only counting lakes totally in the United States because Lakes Erie, Superior, Champlain, Ontario, Huron etc are all larger but partly in Canada.

Lake Michigan has to be the #1 lake totally in the United States.

Regarding my home state and why it deserves some consideration. Here are the statistics for New York State from the 2008 NYS Water Quality Assessment Report:

"According to the best available estimates, New York State has 7,650 ponded bodies of water (lakes, ponds, reservoirs, etc.) covering a surface area of over 790,000 acres (not including Lakes Ontario and Erie which collectively cover more than 3 million acres in New York borders alone).

further down the report it notes the exact number of ponded waters is NOT known and the minimum size for the listed waters is 6.4 acres. So we can reasonably assume there is more than 7,650.

I had to find this on a obscure website by looking up New York State Water Area and then the State Water Quality Assessment Report. See "2008 nys section 305(b) report" for more info.

I think the "best" lakes means quality instead of quantity. A lot of people have been stating how many lakes their state has and i don't think this is relevant. I was hoping that this thread has more pictures about beautiful lakes.
