The four most northern Great Lakes States, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and New York are my favorites. More scenic and more natural. Minnesota has the most lakes, much of it in wild woodlands. Michigan of course, has the most Great Lake frontage and New York has many scenic lakes surrounded by mountains.
Maine, like Minnesota has some wild lakes as does New Hampshire on a smaller scale. Vermont of course shares the beautiful Lake Champlain with New York.
Florida has alot of natural lakes, including some hot springs (with caves) and during the wet season --- don't forget the Everglades.
Finally, many of the Southern States have some excellent MAN-MADE lakes. Many of them are large and produce some great Bass fishing. For instance, Tennessee and Kentucky seem to have a decent amount of these lakes.
i chose ny because i live in ny, and have seen/been to some of the lakes here, and they are so scenic, and as someone pointed out, they are complimented by the mountains. I hope people post more pics of their favorite state lakes though, because i would love to see what others have to offer.
Gators AND snakes! I'd never swim in any Florida lake.
Well some Lakes are too natural and untapped; meaning we as Floridians wouldn't dare. Some of our lakes resemble the everglades at best with the swampy bushy jungle experience: Bushes, animals, insects, mucky, humid, warm , and dense. Great for fishing and jet skiing.

We call those little green mounds, hills. Still looks like a lovely place tho
You forgot Pennsylvania which has thousands of lakes although no large and well known ones.
