Pittsburgh - the only city with an entrance from almost all sides.....Downtown just shoots out of nowhere and with the skyline Pittsburgh has nothing beats its entrance...
Not NYC, Not SF, Not Chicago or Philadelphia....Pittsburgh OWNS THIS!
Atlanta -> headed south on I-85 from around 400.
Houston -> U.S. 59 north from I-610
Los Angeles -> North on the Harbor Freeway from the 105.
New Orleans -> crossing into the city on the Crecent City Connection over the Mississippi River. (best view IMO)
New Orleans -> crossing to IHNC on the I-10 west.
I will have to go with San Francisco coming from the north. First you are going through mountainous area, and you can get a glimpse of San Francisco in the distance... Then through a belt of fog, into a tunnel through the mountain... then when you come out straight down and faced with the Golden Gate bridge with the bay and San Francisco over to the side. Then if you veer left towards the city after getting off of it, the drive through presidio and passing palace of fine arts going into DT. pretty cool drive.
Other than that I would say coming into NYC at night, or Chicago coming from Loyola all the way down lake shore drive then driving straight at the field museum before cutting back into the loop. Kennedy to Congress is also cool...
NYC, San Francisco, and Philadelphia. The rest do not compare.
Particularly driving into Manhattan from Queens on the Queensboro bridge. It's much nicer driving straight into midtown than the GW or Triboro bridge that take you into upper Manhattan. With the Queensboro bridge, it takes you smack dab into all the skyscrapers of midtown.
This.
When I'm in New York, the views coming off the bridge is stunning.
i LOVE the drive into new orleans. partly because when i drive in there i know im in for an amazing time... but after i moved out the times i came back it was one of my favorite drives. also it doesnt have horrendous traffic.
p-burgh was mentioned... and i liked that drive after i learned how to navigate the roads there. before i learned it i managed to get lost a lot and it was very frustrating.
i like driving through cincinati on i-71 (i think its i-71 could be wrong)... it cuts right through the city and is great.
i like the drive to dallas at night when there is no traffic. during rush hour no.
new york has an impressive skyline, but i hate driving into that city period because traffic is so obnoxious. so my awe of the tall buildings built by man is quickly replaced with me flipping off the ******* who cut me off without using a turn signal.
Theres no doubt that Manhattan takes this one easily, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Miami yet though. Heres a pretty cool pic of what it would look like to come into Miami from a boat:
Chicago- south on 90/94
Cincinnati- North on I 75
Milwaukee- North on I 94
